Mercedes Vito in today after a customer purchased the vehicle to use as a taxi and we needed to diagnose a bad oil leak and get the van ready for its MOT and airport runs etc.

We found the oil leak to be coming from the crankshaft oil seal which allows engine oil to leak inside the gearbox but because removal of the flywheel and clutch is needed to access the seal its a no brainer to use all new parts before refitting the gearbox with new gearbox oil and finishing off with an engine service.

Ford transit recovered to us to diagnose and repair after the vehicle had lost all power and now wouldn’t start. After finding lots of oil in the exhaust the first place we checked was the turbo and confirmed the failure after the turbine had snapped in half. When we’d stripped the vehicle we then sent the DPF off for professional cleaning as we knew it would be blocked with the sheer amount of oil the failed turbo allowed into the exhaust and if not, it would of almost certainly caused premature turbo failure again with the back pressure from the blockage. The customer also opted for us to remove the sump and make sure there was no metal debris from the turbo in the sump or oil pickup pipe.

Range rover evoque in today for a timing chain kit and waterpump replacement.

As many know, these aren’t the easiest job to take on hence why most people turn them away and wont work on them, This is usually due to the complexity of these vehicles and the amount of work needed to access the chains which includes the removal of the subframe, gearbox, torque converter, EGR valve and EGR cooler and timing chain covers etc.

BMW 316d in for a top end rebuild and timing chain kit replacement after this one had snapped.

More of an intricate chain to do on these vehicles as removal of the gearbox/clutch/flywheel and sump is necessary to gain access to the chain.

2 Nissan Juke’s in this week for new timing chains.

They had previously been in for unrelated work doing when we noticed the chains were very noisy. After stripping we noticed on 1 of the cars the chain had stretched and on the other the guide had worn through. The 1.2 renault engine that nissan use in these cars are notorious for being plagued with timing chain issues so if you have the same vehicle or any other vehicle and are worried about your timing chain/belt get in-touch.

Vauxhall zafira in today after been recovered to us from another garage after them stating to the customer they will need a new engine at £2.5k + labour to fit.

Once we started diagnosing the car ourselves it became apparent that the timing chain sprocket bolt had not been tightened properly by the previous mechanic and had become loose causing the timing to jump. Luckily by design this engine sometimes will not damage the valves in the event of timing failure it will damage the rockers and the camshaft caps.

After locking the timing on the engine we fitted a new timing chain kit and a new timing belt kit all then torqued up to manufacturers specifications ensuring it will not come loose again all while saving the customer over £1500.

Vauxhall Corsa in today for diagnosis of running issues and losing coolant. We found the timing chain to be noisy and the headgasket to have failed so rather than strip and rebuild the engine, the customer opted for the easier and cheaper option for us to supply and fit a second hand engine.

Range rover sport in today for both turbos replacing. As you can see from the photos, one had completely failed allowing oil and metal chunks to circulate into the engine oil and intake pipes. Our customer got extremely lucky he caught it in time so the metal fragments didnt destroy the engine. Finally, we changed the oil and the air filters before test driving to ensure everything is ok.
