Persistent flat battery? This is often parasitic drain.

Parasitic drain is an unwanted current draw with the vehicle switched off, usually caused by a module, relay, or network that fails to shut down correctly.

This type of fault is commonly avoided — it’s time-consuming, methodical, and doesn’t suit “plug-in and replace” diagnostics.
In many cases, even main dealers are reluctant to get involved.

🎅🔧 Santa’s Sleigh – Clean Bill of Health 🔧🎅

The big man’s been in today and we’re happy to report:
Clean bill of health and ready for duty 🎄✨

Unfortunately… that leaves us still running around like part of Santa’s elf workshop 😅
So much to achieve, and nowhere near enough hours in the day.

Because of this, we genuinely can’t help anyone else now — no matter the circumstances.
We are fully maxed out until we close.

✅ All vehicles currently on site will be aimed to be completed before the end of this week.

⏰ Closing: 19th December at 11:00am
⏰ Re-opening: 5th January at 9:00am

To the public it can look like you just plug in a magic computer 💻✨ and BOOM… car fixed!

If only it was that simple… 😅

“But they’ve got a better computer!”
And sure — we’ve invested in specialist tooling…

🔥 Tales From the Workshop 🔥

A Mercedes arrived with an oil level warning 🚨
But before it reached us, it had already been through 5 garages and a “so-called auto electrician.”
Parts thrown at it ❌
Money wasted ❌
No fix ❌

The customer was hundreds of pounds down, over 6× our assessment fee, and no further forward.

One “auto electrician” even claimed it needed a new engine ECU and should go to a main dealer… 😳
That would have been a massively expensive wrong move.

We reassured the customer:
💬 “We don’t guess. We test.”

Within our diagnostic test period, we traced the fault to a failed sensor, replaced it, confirmed the fix, and the vehicle was sorted 👍🔥

🚗 Buying Car Parts Online? Here’s a Real-World Warning…

It’s tempting, isn’t it?
You get told a part needs to be genuine, so you search the internet and find what looks like the same part for much cheaper.

The issue is…
A huge number of these “genuine” online bargains are actually fake or low-quality copies.
Even the packaging can look convincing.

🔧 Real Case From This Week

A Ford came in with DPF faults showing:
• High soot levels
• High pressure readings

But when we carried out proper testing:

👉 The physical exhaust pressures were perfectly fine
👉 The DPF pressure sensor fitted looked new — BUT its markings had been rubbed off
👉 That instantly raised suspicions

This type of sensor uses SENT digital protocol, which means:
• You can’t test it with a simple multimeter
• It needs an oscilloscope
• And the signal has to be decoded to check if the data is valid

After scoping it:

⚠️ The signals were incorrect
⚠️ The sensor was sending false data to the ECU
⚠️ This triggered the DPF faults the driver was seeing

In other words — the “new” cheap sensor was the problem.

🧠 The Reality of Modern Diagnostics

Modern vehicles aren’t fixed by:

❌ Plugging in a magic code reader
❌ Replacing whatever part the code mentions

Behind the scenes, proper diagnosis involves:

✔ Understanding system logic
✔ Using specialist tools
✔ Measuring live signals
✔ Verifying data rather than guessing

This is why cheap or incorrect parts can create more issues than the one you started with.

💬 Final Thoughts

This isn’t about where you buy parts — it’s a reminder that:

Not everything online is what it claims to be.
Modern cars rely on accurate data, and one dodgy sensor can send the whole system into chaos.

If something looks too good to be true…
…it usually is. 😅

This trade is incredibly demanding — the mental stresses and strains we face are huge, especially as vehicles become more complex every year. Unfortunately, the general public still doesn’t realise just how advanced modern vehicles are, and how much pressure that puts on us.

👉 Two people every week in the UK automotive industry die by su***de.
That’s a truly shocking figure — and it’s something we can change.

We’re mostly men in this trade, and let’s be honest — we’re not always the best at talking about how we feel. But we need to.
Check in on your mates. If someone’s having a tough time or their usual moan feels a bit deeper — don’t ignore it. Push to get them some help. Support each other. Even a small chat could make a big difference.

🚨 Cheap “Mechanics” Everywhere — Be Careful Who You Trust!

Lately, Facebook seems full of new “mobile mechanic” pages offering cheap servicing and cheap diagnostics.

But take a closer look…
Last month they were cleaning driveways, driving taxis, or doing odd jobs — and now suddenly they’re “mechanics”? 🤔

Let’s be real — modern vehicles are insanely complex.
They need the right tools, fluids, and knowledge — not guesswork.

When someone with no trade background starts “having a go”, things can go badly wrong. We’re seeing more and more cars come in with:
🚫 Parts thrown at faults
🚫 Sensors damaged
🚫 ECUs tampered with
🚫 Big bills that could’ve been avoided

If someone’s offering diagnostics for next to nothing — ask yourself why.
Do they have:
✅ Trade experience?
✅ Insurance?
✅ Proper diagnostic equipment?
✅ Relavent training and skills to do tests and repairs?

Please — do your research before handing over your keys.

Because fixing the damage afterwards costs far more than doing it properly the first time.
