Hi everyone, especially those of you with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries!

A new study (link to study) sheds light on how to extend the life of your LFP battery. The findings suggest that repeatedly using the battery between only 75% and 100% State of Charge (SOC) is the most detrimental approach. Conversely, cycling the battery between 0% and 25% SOC offers the best results for longevity.

This is important because many people, especially those with solar panels and daily recharges, unknowingly fall into the detrimental high SOC usage pattern. Additionally, the study highlights that constantly keeping the battery at 100% SOC is also not ideal. Occasional full charges are still recommended, however, to calibrate the Battery Management System (BMS) due to the flat voltage curve of LFP batteries in the upper 30% SOC range.

Takeaway:

The key takeaway here is to avoid keeping the battery at a consistently high charge level. Don't be afraid to use it!
