It’s always nice to get reviews and feedback but to be included in someone’s blog is even nicer. Maya Ray Cross is an up and coming Freestyle kayaker and we are delighted she and her family chose our cottage for some much need relaxation. Maya has recently represented Great Britain at the world Freestyle Championships in Argentina, where she achieved and impressive 8th place junior. Very good considering it was her first World Championships. So we are delighted that they came to us for a rest before this years cheers competitions all start. Good luck Maya and we can’t wait to hear how you do this year.

Hey all
So this week has been crazy and relaxing.
I finally got a chance to have a break, a week away from everything. Me, my parents and grandparents spent a week in the Peak District. We decided we needed a break, so that’s what we had.
My grandma had been ill recently so this was a chance to get her away from home and enjoy ourselves. It also gave the rest of us a rest from the real world, instead we had a winter wonderland. It snowed a lot! Snow was above our ankles and it’s was awesome!
Ford Wetly Cottage is a beautiful place to stay, cozy and warm even with the snow!
I enjoyed every minute of it.
I also got chance to go to a pool session whilst I was there, I got a chance to do some more coaching for the Croome family and everyone is coming along. I also got a chance to catch up with some people I’ve paddled with in Llangollen, it was nice to get the chance to see everybody.
We got snowed in through out the week but at least we had the company of the little horses and the other wildlife around the cottage, it was a peaceful place to be. The snow got worse and worse heading towards the end of the week and we thought we wasn’t going to get home. The road in and out of the cottage was blocked due to snow drifts but luckily Adrian, the fella who runs the place has got a digger and spent all of Friday morning clearing away the snow drifts so we could get home.
Eventually with a little tow we managed to get out of there, I was sad to be leaving, I had to come back to reality and stop relaxing.
I was originally going straight from the Cottage to Nottingham for the National Student Rodeo but unfortunately it was cancelled due to the horrific weather it was just way to cold to go kayaking. It must of been a tough choice for the committee to choose to cancel the event but at least we know everyone is safe and not going to get extremely cold! I was actually going to be on the pyranha stand whilst we where at this event but it wasn’t worth the risk, so we headed straight home. There is no snow! It’s crazy!
This evening i went across to Chester to go to a pool session like I used to I haven’t seen the guys from there in a long time so we thought it’d be nice to go and catch up. I got to see my friends and have a good laugh. The coaches there are wonderful people, one of the coaches in particular when you hear his laugh he lights up the whole room. Brian is a brilliant coach and he was a fantastic mentor, he has taught me a lot over the years it’s always great to catch up with the people who have helped you through your kayaking career.
