‼️ MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE – LET’S SEE WHAT’S HIDING UNDERNEATH… 👀

This week we have Message In A Bottle, a 65ft narrowboat, with us at Awlworks for shot blasting and two-pack epoxy blacking.

The hull will be blasted back to clean, bare steel, removing the existing coatings and corrosion and giving us a proper look at the true condition of the steel underneath.

Once blasted, we’ll be able to see exactly what we’re dealing with…

Will she be nice and clean underneath, or will the blasting reveal a few surprises? 🤔

Once we’re happy with the steel, we’ll spray apply a two-pack epoxy blacking system to give the hull long-lasting protection.

⚠️ PITTING ON YOUR HULL? ⚠️

DO YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT YOUR HULL LOOKS LIKE UNDERNEATH THE OLD BLACKING?

Years of old coatings can hide the true condition of your steel.

Shot blasting strips the hull back to clean steel, removing old coatings, rust, contaminants and mill scale.

Mill scale left on steel can contribute to corrosion and pitting as it breaks away and creates areas where corrosion can develop beneath the coating. Removing it gives the new protective coating a properly prepared surface to bond to.

Shot blasting also exposes the steel, allowing the condition of the hull and any areas of existing pitting to be clearly seen before the new coating is applied.
