Holiday mode, engaged!

What does that mean for people? It means I'm not physically at the workshop, it means I'm not doing any retail work until I'm back on Monday 6th July.

It means you need to use the price list pinned to the top of the businsss page, the search function and the booking link - https://northeasttuning.as.me

You can of course ring me on 07301 003272, but don't be offended if I don't reply. Our Ai assistant for messenger is pretty good for basic questions, but don't believe everything it says. πŸ˜‚

It means I'm looking forward to coming back to a full diary and some proper graft. Don't forget we do 3 months interest free through Payment Assist too...If you're still paying for your holidays. πŸ˜‚

It means that for the first time since the business started I am going to take a bit of time off, and not because I'm in hospital.

It means I'm going to have one last crack at adventure with my dad before he is too old to do it, and drive all over the country with him in his modified 1950's MG Magnette.

It does not mean the file service is closed, I have my laptop with me. But it does mean I might be a little slower on turn around times and it does mean I won't be sat up on my laptop after hours. So please respect that. πŸ™

If you are absolutely desperate for some work done and want my touch on it, we have an option for you.

You can speak to David, he's in our dealer network and a certified legend - https://share.google/AE4O8ahiepHAdwcX0 he may be able to squeeze you in for the odd emergency job. But remember, getting your car tuned is not an emergency...

I hope everyone has a FANTASTIC few weeks, I'll keep a few little updates going along the way.

Thanks for your support, without our customer base and following I wouldn't be able to afford to get to spend this time with my dad. And that means a lot to me.

Went to hospital, got violated, need to have a day off tomorrow to recover.

Which means I'll be home all day with my laptop, so if you want to ring/enquiry/talk to me/cheer my day up tomorrow is the day to do it.

Here's a supercharged Audi S5 we tuned recently. 🏁

We've done a lot of these S5's and know the limitations and weaknesses of the CREC engines well. Both their software limitations and hardware.

The owner of this car was very, very chilled.

"You're the expert do your thing."

Flattering indeed. πŸ˜‚

For me tuning these is all about the initial throttle response and the mid range punch, I just struggle to get excited about these in standard form. Higher up the rev range they pull really nicely, but they're very focused on being soft smooth and comfortable GT cars rather than what an S car should be.

Combined with an appropriate gearbox tune the results on these really are transformational.

There's lots of talk of power figures and expectations banded around for these cars but if you want one to last 410-420hp is the right sort of ballpark to aim for and 480-490nm ish is comfortable for the gearbox and fits nicely with the natural power curve of the engine.

We focus heavily on thermal protection with these engines too. Particularly exhaust and inlet temperatures which generally guide how we tune one.

Our exhaust temps peaked at 930⁰ and inlet temps sat steady in the mid 30's and peaked at 41.25⁰ after some 'aggressive' driving which wasn't too offensive. The lambda was stable, the supercharger and bypass valve were working perfectly and all in all I was really happy with how the engine tune turned out.

The gearbox tune was great, loads sharper and faster with a much more confident shift. The shift points were revised ans the gearbox was less jumpy and held the gears for longer before downshifting, giving you access to that mid range punch we had unlocked.

Some people are mental when it comes to tuning these, it's not uncommon to see quotes of Β£1200 to do the engine and gearbox on these.

I'm not greedy when I tune them and the quality is clearly there. πŸ‘Œ

I'd tune these all day long if I could.

Want to join the NET family?

I have ONE spot open for our next investment, you've got to have drive, ambition, a desire to deliver the best and be able to be told what to do. Attitude is key!

Next working day delivery for an Autotuner tool slaved to us is Β£2250+VAT.

You can be a business in the industry wanting to add tuning services to your current setup, you can be an individual wanting to build a business or you can be someone who already has their foot in the door to the tuning industry but isn't getting the quality you deserve.

Our dealer portal is here - https://northeasttuning.tuningfileportal.com/

Call me on 07301 003272 for a chat.

This is a rare opportunity to get on board, we do not run ads looking for new dealers all year round. Once this opportunity is taken, it won't come around for a while.

Some of you have seen I'm selling the SAAB 96.

I've had two people come to look at it, 73 enquiries from people who are probably on a register somewhere.

First guy, really normal to be fair. Saw it, liked it, wasn't quite for him. No problem.

Since then I've had about 100 messages from people who are just complete morons.

Someone came to see it this morning who test drove it, put it on my ramps, video called his neighbour, then test drove it again, then spent half hour looking through the service history, then spent 20 minutes talking at me about some s**t Triumph TR7 he used to own, then told me he doesn't think he wants it because he thinks it will be hard to insure a car with a roll cage.

Send that man for a hard drive check ASAP.

Your file service won't do it? No bother, I will...

I get a phone call on Friday from a nice lad who does a bit of tuning himself, has an Autotuner and needs my help. He's got a Skoda which had an ECU fault, his current master has sent him multiple immo off solutions which haven't worked. Can the VAG Immo Man help.

Yes, the answer is always yes.

Two options here, his master can decrypt the files, I'll do my thing, his master wraps them up and the jobs done.

Second option, his master contacts me directly we work business to business and I offer the service for him, making his service and support better and making him money in the process. It's not like a gatekeep the ability to do this stuff.

There's actually a third option here though. An option which could never entered my mind as a tuner, a file service, or even just a human being tbh. But pride does make you do wild things. πŸ˜‚

Option 3 is you refuse either option 1 or 2, tell your 'slave' that there's nothing wrong with your solution and make him trailer his car a 7 hour round trip for us to correctly transfer the immo data. Knowing he is paying hundreds of pounds in transport fees and a days work lost.

Of course this could be done through the post, or he could have found someone with a master tool closer to home. But he didn't and that's his choice.

And the facts are his file service knew he was going to all of this effort for something they could have given him the opportunity to do remotely, in about 20 seconds.

We had the immo data swapped in 20 minutes and the lad wasn't charged.

I don't really care about attracting retail customers with this post. But I think it should serve as a reminder to tuners who run a file service that outsourcing, buying in knowledge and doing right by your end user is not a bad thing.

And if you're a file service who thinks you own the tool and you won't 'unlock' files so your guys can have options. You're a f**king p**ck.

More fun facts from North East Tuning. πŸ˜‚

I don't usually share other businesses or give recommendations.

BUT.

Hexx have always really impressed me with their work and the attitude towards customers. They're a business we've mentioned a few times, and more than a few customers have recommended them off the back of their service.

If you like clean cars, give them a follow. A top guy who has a real eye for detail and customer service.

It's good to support local. πŸ’ͺ

It's been a minute since we tuned an 8P RS3 and it's really easy to forget that once upon a time these things were the daddy. πŸ’ͺ

The owner of this car was not new to us, he came down with his family last month for us to tune a couple of GTD's. He believed his RS3 was already APR tuned, because he'd paid for it to be done.

But after seeing our no bulls**t, open door, results based customer service first hand he thought maybe a second opinion was required.

The intial health check showed...No APR tags in the software name (the old school way), no APR tags in the hexdump, no import ban/no read in Winols for the file and a 100% data area match to an original file. The ECU had two programming attempts, only 1 successful.

It's not looking good fam...

A road test showed standard boost, standard optimum ignition angle, standard lambda and an RS3 which felt like a healthy standard RS3.

I can show the customer all of this information but nothing is more telling than actually tuning it and showing him the difference. Because if the car WAS APR tuned, you'd only expect to see minimal improvements at best surely?

A base file was flashed in, nothing special just a good quality general 'stage 1' tune to get it pointing in the right direction. This rewarded us with a sharper throttle response, more mid range torque, power which came in earlier and continued to build through the rev range. Things were good the car was healthy the logs were great.

Back to base, sprinkle a bit of sharpness to the wastegate duty to make it puncher get the throttle plate opening sooner, a bit less ignition timing...Nice, moving forward.

Another revision to polish everything off and we had a sharp, punchy, 5 pot that was playful and fun but felt like it was on your side.

I'm confident we hit the 400hp mark on this one, it felt mega out on the road and is everything it should have been. But smooth, controlled and on your side. Not a lairy modified monster.

The customers were obviously fantastic, we had a great time and hopefully they have tallied it up as another adventure with NET.

Yep, this RS3 was a fit young hen. πŸ’ͺ🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏁
