Storm preparations paid off at Troon Yacht Haven ⛵

Post Storm Boelo update:

After several days of strong winds and high spring tides, we're pleased to report that Troon Yacht Haven has come through the storm without any major issues.

Our yard team spent Thursday and Friday preparing for the storm, carrying out safety checks and securing boats ahead of the severe weather. A team of us was here at the weekend and further round of checks and precautionary measures was carried out on Monday to ensure everything remained as safe and secure as possible.

Thanks to the team's efforts and the vigilance of our boat owners, the marina fared relatively well despite the challenging conditions.

There was some damage to covers and canopies and a few other minor issues, but thankfully, no major problems.

Our yard team has been continuing to inspect boats on the hard and on the pontoons, carrying out repairs and checking for any storm-related damage. Any issues identified have been reported directly to the owners.

Our hoist team is also busy catching up with scheduled lift-outs and launches as conditions improve.

The weather may have calmed down, but it's always worth keeping an eye on your boat, particularly with the unpredictable conditions we can experience here on the west coast.

Red sky in the morning, sailor’s warning; red sky at night, sailor’s delight.

Is there any truth in it? Yes the saying has some scientific basis, particularly in the UK.

Our weather systems often move from west to east. When the sky is red in the evening, sunlight can pass through dust and moisture in the atmosphere, illuminating clouds to the east. If the sky to the west is clear, it often suggests that better weather is approaching.

A red sky in the morning can mean the opposite. The rising sun in the east may illuminate moisture and clouds ahead of an approaching weather system, suggesting that rain or unsettled weather could be on its way.

Our yard team has been out and about yesterday and this morning carrying out checks on all boats and pontoons, taking extra precautions to ensure everything is safe and secure ahead of the strong winds forecast for this weekend. ⛵💨

All calm at Troon just now, with blue skies and barely a ripple on the water. But while it may look peaceful here, strong winds are forecast across parts of southern England tonight, with gusts potentially reaching 50–60 mph or more in exposed coastal areas.

Scotland will also get its fair share of wind this weekend, with unsettled conditions and strong gusts possible in exposed areas. 🌬️

⚓ As usual our yard team will be carrying out checks on all boats, both in and out of the water, to ensure everything is secure and shipshape ahead of the changing weather.

Windy Weather Ahead! ⛵

With a few windy days forecast this Friday and onwards, now’s the time to give your boat a quick check if you can!

✅ Check and secure mooring lines.
✅ Double-check fenders are correctly positioned.
✅ Secure or remove loose items, covers, and anything that could blow away.
✅ Check sail covers, canopies, and cockpit enclosures are firmly secured.

Our yard team will be checking pontoons as usual.
