Saturday 22nd August - Detailed Forecast
Saturday will bring a welcome improvement to the weather across Wales, with much more in the way of dry and bright weather following the recent cool and showery conditions.
It will be a rather chilly start to the day, particularly across sheltered inland areas, with temperatures well down into single figures in some rural valleys.
There may still be one or two isolated showers around northern and western coastal areas first thing, but these should quickly become fewer and fade away during the morning.
Elsewhere, Saturday should begin dry with a mixture of sunshine and areas of cloud.
As we move through the morning, the cloud should gradually break up, allowing increasingly widespread spells of sunshine to develop.
By the afternoon, the vast majority of Wales should be completely dry, with plenty of sunshine mixed with patches of fair-weather cloud. There remains a very small chance of an isolated shower around the far north or northwest, but most places won’t see one.
Temperatures will recover nicely in the sunshine.
Across Anglesey and exposed northwestern coastal areas, temperatures should reach around 17 to 18°C, with 18 to 19°C more widely across North and West Wales.
Through Mid Wales we should see temperatures around 19 to 20°C, while South and Southeast Wales will be warmest at around 20 to 21°C, perhaps locally a degree higher in a sheltered spot with prolonged sunshine.
Winds will generally be northerly to northwesterly, although considerably lighter than Friday. Coastal areas will retain a noticeable breeze, while winds become fairly light inland.
Saturday night
Saturday evening will remain dry across virtually all of Wales, with some pleasant late sunshine before dusk.
Skies should become increasingly clear during the evening, although a few patches of cloud may continue around northern and western coastal areas.
With winds becoming light and skies clearing, temperatures will fall fairly quickly after sunset.
It will therefore become quite chilly overnight, particularly across inland Wales.
Minimum temperatures should generally fall to around 7 to 11°C inland, although a few sheltered rural valleys could dip a little lower.
Coastal areas will remain milder at around 11 to 14°C.
There could also be a little patchy mist or shallow fog developing in sheltered valleys towards dawn.
Outlook for the following 10 days
Sunday 23rd: Another mainly dry day with increasingly long sunny spells. A little warmer at around 19–22°C.
Monday 24th: Probably the best day of the settled spell. Plenty of sunshine and largely dry conditions, with temperatures rising to around 21–24°C.
Tuesday 25th: Becoming warmer and increasingly humid. There should initially be some sunshine, but the risk of heavy or thundery showers increases later in the day.
Wednesday 26th: More unsettled, with showers or longer periods of rain. Some could become heavy and possibly thundery.
Thursday 27th: Remaining changeable with sunny spells and showers, perhaps merging into longer periods of rain in places.
Friday 28th: Further showers or rain are possible, although there should also be some brighter and drier intervals.
Saturday 29th: Still mixed, but potentially with longer dry spells developing between the showers.
Sunday 30th: A mixture of sunny spells and showers with temperatures probably close to average.
Monday 31st: Changeable conditions remain most likely, with showers or rain at times but some worthwhile dry periods as well.
Tuesday 1st September: Confidence is naturally much lower by this stage, but the broader pattern continues to favour changeable conditions rather than a prolonged settled spell, with occasional rain or showers interspersed with drier and potentially warmer periods.
