We’ve pitted an ultra-high-tech plug-in hybrid supercar against a heavy-hitting, twin-motor family hauler to see if instant EV torque can outrun pure Italian pedigree! It’s the Ferrari 296 taking on the all-new Porsche Cayenne EV!

Can thousands of pounds of luxury SUV really hold off Maranello's finest off the line? Let’s check out the stats…

Starting with the Ferrari 296, it’s powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 mid-engined hybrid setup, pumping out a staggering 830hp and 740Nm of torque. All that power is sent strictly to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and thanks to built-in launch control, it squeezes every bit of performance out of its sleek 1,640kg body. It’s an absolute engineering masterpiece, but perfection doesn't come cheap, this beauty will set you back £279,343!

Then we come to the challenger: the all-electric Porsche Cayenne EV. Don't let the SUV shape fool you; this monster packs two electric motors delivering an astonishing 1,156hp and a back-breaking 1,500Nm of instant torque! It's an absolute titan on the scales at 2,645kg, but with all-wheel drive traction launching all that instant power, it moves like a guided missile. The price tag? A surprisingly accessible £130,900 alongside the Ferrari!

So, the Cayenne EV has a massive 326hp advantage and double the torque of the Ferrari, but can it overcome a massive 1-tonne weight penalty when the lights go out? There’s only one way to find out for sure… LET’S RACE!

FIRST LOOK At The Cars In Our September Auction!

It’s time for the First Look at the cars arriving for our September auction!

Paul and Charlie take a walk around Unit 1 at our Pickering site to see what’s already arrived ahead of the sale on 23rd, 24th & 25th September.

There’s plenty to look at, including multiple Talbot Sunbeams, a Nova that gets a very enthusiastic reaction, Subarus, Es**rts, Bentleys, Capris, a TVR and even a familiar little rally Mini that Charlie knows particularly well.

They also come across an Es**rt that looks fairly standard from the outside but is hiding an ST170 engine and plenty of upgrades underneath, as well as some more unusual machinery and a few cars with interesting stories behind them.

This is only a first lap of what’s currently on site, with plenty more still to come before the auction.

This is the all-new Renault Twingo!

It’s set to go on general sale in the UK by the end of 2026, and with a targeted price tag of under £20,000, it might be the must-have affordable car of the year!

The question is: with such a low price tag, is it more style over substance? Let’s take a closer look…

In terms of the exterior design, the new Twingo has so much character! It remains faithful to the original’s design while still looking modern. The eye-styled DRLs further add to the cute design, and the car still looks great in this bright yellow colour. Along the side you’ll find windows without seals, and at the back the taillights are shaped similarly to those at the front, again further adding to the car’s character.

Step inside, and signs of the low price tag start to show. The majority of the cabin is covered in plastic, but it’s not a surprise for a car at this price point. Thankfully, though, there are a number of redeeming features, including physical climate controls, an infotainment screen with Google Maps integration, and floor mats with colourful shapes that are also included on the roof lining!

The new Twingo is a small car, so as a result, it has a small battery, clocking in at 27.5kWh. This is good for a claimed range of 163 miles, and it has a single motor driving the front wheels, which delivers a total of 82hp.

Renault hasn’t confirmed the official price of the Twingo yet, but we know the target is to have it cost under £20,000. The question is, would you choose it over competitors like the Citroen e-CS and Hyundai Inster? Let us know which you’d choose in the comments!

It’s time for an Audi vs Audi showdown!

We’ve got Sam in the all-new Audi RS5, and he’s lining up against Mat in an Audi S4!

However, this is no ordinary S4! MRC Tuning has tuned it, and as a result, it’s had a massive power increase! The question is: does this 2017 car have what it takes to bring down the RS5? Let’s take a closer look…

The new Audi RS5 rolls up with a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, coupled with an electric motor, and they combine to produce 639hp and 825Nm. This power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and the hybrid tech means it’s pretty hefty, weighing in at 2,355kg! As new, it costs around £90,000.

Then we come to the Audi S4, which houses a 3-litre V6 turbo under the bonnet. However, it’s had a number of changes made to it, including a new intake, a new exhaust, and a remapped engine and gearbox. As a result, power output has increased to 450hp and 780Nm. It’s also a whole lot lighter than the RS5, tipping the scales at just 1,630kg!

So the S4 may still be down on power, but it’s more than half a tonne lighter! Will the weight difference prove decisive? There’s only one way to find out for sure… LET’S RACE!

A Huge Change To How We Sell Cars At Mathewsons!

We’ve made a big change to the way vehicles are processed at Mathewsons.

Dave takes us behind the scenes in our processing unit to show the new lift that has now been installed, allowing us to film the underside of almost every suitable vehicle that comes through the auction.

That means, wherever possible, each vehicle listing will now include:

A full turntable walkaround showing the exterior
An underside video filmed on the lift
Both clips edited together into one complete vehicle video

The aim is simple: to give buyers as much information as possible before they bid.

Mathewsons is already one of the most trusted auction houses in the UK, but our goal is to become the most trusted, and that means being as open and transparent as we can about the vehicles we sell.

Dave also shows the full journey a vehicle now takes once it arrives on site, from being washed and prepared, through the turntable and lift, before finally being placed into the showroom.

There will still be some vehicles, such as larger motorhomes and vans, that are simply too big for the turntable or lift, but for the vast majority of suitable vehicles this will now become part of the normal process.
