It is important to ensure that your tyres will be effective in all weather.
Are your tyres safe and legal?
Buying part-worn tyres is not necessarily saving you money.
According to one tyre safety organisation, more than four million drivers a year are buying tyres that have been previously used on another vehicle.
TyreSafe claims buying part-worn tyres isn’t necessarily cheaper. Here’s why. A typical part-worn tyre will have about 3mm of tread. Considering the legal minimum is 1.6mm, that part-worn tyre will only have about 1.4mm of usable tread, meaning 4,000 miles or so of motoring.
A new tyre usually has 8mm of tread – that’s 6.4mm of legal tread, or 18,000 miles of driving.
With all that in mind, TyreSafe estimates that part-worn tyres could cost about £6.33 per millimetre of usable tread compared with just £5.32 per millimetre for a new set.

Don't drive tired.
Studies have shown that drivers don’t fall asleep without warning. Drivers who fall asleep at the wheel have often tried to fight off drowsiness by opening a window, or by turning up the radio. This doesn't work for long.
The facts:-
Research suggests that almost 20% of accidents on major roads are sleep-related.
Sleep-related accidents are more likely than others to result in a fatality or serious injury.
Peak times for accidents are in the early hours and after lunch.
About 40% of sleep-related accidents involve commercial vehicles.
Men under 30 have the highest risk of falling asleep at the wheel.

Motorists and supervising drivers caught using their mobile phones while driving will automatically receive six points on their licence and on-the-spot fines of £250.
Newly qualified drivers who have a ceiling of six points for their first two years on the road, could lose their licence if they are caught.

The dangers of country roads.
60% of people killed on Britain’s roads die on rural roads, and new research shows many more drivers are needlessly putting themselves at risk of an accident.
A shocking 25% of drivers report having had a near miss on a country road, while 40% have been surprised by an unexpected hazard, such as an animal. A third also confess to taking a bend too fast.

THINK! Advice.....Always wear a seatbelt.
Wear your seatbelt correctly so it can offer you the best possible protection in a crash.
* In a crash you're twice as likely to die if you don't wear a seatbelt.
* Drivers and passengers aged 17-34 have the lowest seatbelt-wearing rates combined with the highest accident rate.
* There is evidence that people are less likely to use seatbelts on short or familiar journeys - this puts them at serious risk of injury in a crash.

Have you checked your driving licence?
Many drivers face a fine of £1,000 if they fail to update their photo-card driving licences, according to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency.
These are usually valid for 10 years and there is a legal requirement for drivers to renew the photograph at the same time as they renew their licence.

THINK! Brake before the bend, not on it.
Country roads often have sharp bends and blind bends which can hide unexpected hazards. Stay in control and give yourself time to react because you never know what’s around the corner. The facts:-
* 59% of all fatalities occur on country roads.
* Three people die each day on average on country roads.
* The number of people killed on country roads is nearly 10 times higher than on motorways.
* In 2015, 10,307 people were killed or seriously injured on country roads in Great Britain.
