🚗♿ Continuing to learn, so I can help you drive!

Yesterday was the final day of a 19-hour CPD course run by Disability Driving Instructors, led by John Rogers, covering disabilities, medical conditions, driving and licensing.

Hosted by Mobility in Motion in Alfreton, the day included a fascinating look at vehicle adaptations, with thanks to Charlie for sharing his knowledge and demonstrating some of what's possible.

We also got hands-on experience trying different adaptations, from palm-and-slide steering to the Guido-Simplex handheld trigger accelerator, which was a particular highlight for me.

It's been a really valuable month of learning, helping me build my knowledge and understanding so I can better support learners with physical disabilities and additional needs.

Because driving tuition should be accessible to everyone. 💙

🚗 The driving prodigy has done it! 😂🎉

Charlotte passed her driving test on her first attempt today!

For months she's been trying to convince me that she's a driving prodigy, so I suppose I'm finally going to have to admit it...

She decided to choose her own route during the test by going the wrong way but thankfully, she came back with a smile on her face and a pass certificate in her hand.

Well done, Charlotte, enjoy the Jaecoo! 🚗🎉

A great day at the ADINJC Expo on Sunday 🚗

Plenty of useful talks covering everything from ADHD and LGBTQ+ inclusion, to lesson adaptation, coaching and the new DVSA Code of Conduct. Lots to take away and plenty of ideas to bring into future lessons.

Of course, no expo would be complete without the freebies… mugs, air fresheners and enough stationery to keep me going for a while! 😂

And then there was the serious business of the PS5 Gran Turismo hot lap competition. 🏎️💨

I managed a 1:03 to beat Dave’s 1:05, despite him having spent several weeks practising! 😎 Unfortunately, neither of us came close to the winning 56-second lap, but I’m claiming bragging rights anyway.

A good mix of learning, networking and a bit of friendly competition. 👌

A huge congratulations to Agata, who passed her driving test today with ZERO driving faults! 🎉

A beautiful, balmy summer evening for a late-afternoon test, and the examiner had absolutely no complaints about her drive. A thoroughly deserved result!

Now the only thing left is to find that Ford Puma to match the Puma trainers already waiting for their new owner! 🐆👟🚗

A huge congratulations to Luke, who passed his driving test on his first attempt today! 👏

I gave him plenty of stick for booking a Saturday test, the day after my birthday, and told him he better pass! 😂

Thankfully, Luke delivered the goods. 😎

A little personal milestone...

When I first qualified as a driving instructor, my pass rate often hovered around 50%. If I'm honest, it knocked my confidence at times.

This year has been something really special. My pass rate has climbed to over 80%, with students averaging very few driving faults, and I couldn't be prouder.

Is it because I've had some brilliant students? Definitely. Have I become more experienced and perhaps raised my own standards of when someone is truly test-ready? I think so too. Hopefully, I've become a better instructor along the way.

I spend a lot of time celebrating my students' successes (and rightly so!), but today I'm taking a moment to appreciate how far I've come as well. Thank you to everyone who's trusted me to help them learn to drive.

I'm now taking a couple of weeks away and heading off on an EV-powered road trip to the Alps and Mont Ventoux. Once I'm there, I'll be swapping four wheels for two and enjoying what is clearly the superior way to travel. 🚴⛰️

I'll still keep an eye on messages when I can, but replies may be a little slower than usual. See you all in a couple of weeks!

Massive congratulations to Oliver, who passed his driving test today with zero driving faults! 👏

The examiner described it as "an outstanding drive," praising his awareness of everything happening around him. Feedback doesn't get much better than that.

Over the course of his lessons we've chatted about everything from his eclectic music taste and films to the challenge of mastering barre chords on the guitar. He's been a genuine pleasure to teach.

Perhaps the nicest part of today was hearing him say that he used to hate the idea of driving, but now he genuinely enjoys it. That's a pretty great journey to have made.

Congratulations again, Oliver. Enjoy the freedom, and drive safely! 🚗🎉
