🚨 Important changes to driving test booking rules are coming.

From 31 March 2026, learner drivers and approved driving instructors (ADIs) will only be able to make 2 changes to a driving test booking.

A change includes:
- changing the date or time
- changing the test centre
- swapping a test between 2 learners

This is part of the outcome of our consultation to improve the way driving tests are booked.

AQUAPLANING πŸ’¦

The Danger Most Drivers Do Not Understand

πŸ’§ What Aquaplaning Actually Is
Most drivers think aquaplaning is dramatic and rare.
It is not.
Aquaplaning happens when your tyres lift off the road and skim across a thin layer of water.
At that moment you have no grip.
No steering.
No braking.
No control.
You become a passenger.

🚫 You Do Not Need Deep Water
Drivers imagine it only happens in flooded roads.
It can happen on:
Standing water in the lane
Puddles collecting at kerbs
Heavy rain on worn tarmac
A thin film of water at speed
Six millimetres of water is enough to take complete control away.

⚠️ What Causes It
Excessive speed for the conditions
Worn tyres with reduced tread
Incorrect tyre pressure
Sudden steering or braking on wet surfaces

Speed is the number one reason.
If the water cannot escape under the tread quickly enough the tyre rides on top of it.
Physics does the rest.

πŸ” How You Know You Are Aquaplaning
Steering feels very light
The car suddenly glides
The engine revs rise
The wheels do not respond
If you notice this you are already aquaplaning.

❌ What Not To Do
Do not brake hard
Do not steer sharply
Do not accelerate
These make the situation worse and can cause a spin.

βœ” What To Do Instead
Ease off the accelerator
Keep the steering straight
Stay calm
Wait for the tyres to reconnect with the road
Only then gently steer and adjust speed

πŸ›ž How To Prevent It
Slow down in heavy rain
Check tyre tread depth
Maintain correct tyre pressure
Avoid large puddles
Increase your following distance
Stay alert to changes in road surface

Aquaplaning is preventable when you drive with understanding not luck.

Your tyres cannot grip water.
Slow down. 🫢🏾

Shared from sheena....A high profile young driver recently lost their licence after receiving six points within the first two years…

Most people do not realise how quickly it can happen.

Under the New Driver Act, anyone who earns six points within the first twenty four months of passing their test will have their licence revoked.
It does not matter who you are. The law treats every new driver exactly the same.

What catches many people out is that the offences are often small.
Four miles per hour over a lower limit.
Missing a temporary sign.
Not noticing a speed change from thirty to twenty.
Two minor offences can be enough to lose your licence completely.

For new drivers, the early years are the most dangerous.
Your brain is still learning risk assessment.
Your judgement is still developing.
Your experience is still thin.
And it takes far less than you think to collect points.

This is not about blame.
It is about awareness.

If you have recently passed, or if your son, daughter, or younger sibling has, remind them:

Check your speed regularly.
Watch for changing limits.
Lower speeds mean stricter enforcement.
And the consequences come faster than the experience does.

Protect your licence.
Protect your future.
Driving is freedom, but only if you keep hold of it.

Another sad message in tonight πŸ₯Ή

A few days after passing your test you are no different from the day before.

You have simply demonstrated that, for 40 minutes, you could follow the rules well enough to earn a licence.

The habits you had before the test the mistakes you made the gaps in your experience they do not magically disappear on pass day.

This week, a young driver passed her test on Monday.
By Friday, her car was completely written off.

She was turning right.
It was dark.
It was raining.
A car full of young boys, no insurance, no tax and no MOT, came flying down the road and drove straight into her.
They jumped out and ran.
Police still have not found them.

Her mum had begged her not to drive in the dark and wet.
Roxy was 18.
Headstrong.
Excited.
Independent.
She went out anyway.

By the grace of God, she walked away unharmed.

Looking at the car, that is a miracle.

This is not about blame.
This is not about fear.
This is about reality.

When you pass your test, you are still a brand-new driver in a very unforgiving world.
Darkness hides danger.
Rain removes grip.
Inexperience slows reactions.

The road is full of people who do not care about rules, safety, or who they hurt.

New drivers: listen to your parents.

Sometimes the warning you roll your eyes at
is the warning that saves your life.

Parents: keep saying it.
Even when they don’t listen.
Even when they think they know better.
They hear you more than you think.

To every learner and newly-passed driver reading this…

Your real test starts now.
Protect yourself.
Take fewer risks.
Drive for the drivers who don’t.

I hope she doesn’t loose her confidence and continues driving 🫢🏾
