𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗝𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴.

When choosing a driving school, the most important thing for me was finding an instructor who was patient and understanding, especially as I’m naturally quite an anxious person.

What initially drew me to Mark Jordan Driving School was the reviews! Every review I read was positive, with so many people mentioning how friendly, patient and knowledgeable the instructors were.
Seeing so many first-time passes was also really reassuring.

I genuinely looked forward to my lessons with Mark my instructor. He’s a great instructor who explains things clearly, is patient and knows how to put you at ease.

The lessons were always relaxed, and we could have a laugh and a chat whilst still learning and making progress. He’s really easy to get along with, which made the whole experience so much more enjoyable.

To anyone thinking about learning with Mark Jordan Driving School, I’d definitely say go for it! I honestly wouldn’t change a thing about my experience, and I’m so pleased to have passed first time. Thanks again for everything Mark! 🚗

A massive congratulations to Jess, who passed her driving test 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 today with just 3 driving faults!** 👏👏

Despite the stress and nerves building up throughout the day, Jess held it all together and came away with a fantastic result! 💪

She's now looking forward to ditching the L plates on her DS3 and enjoying her new driving freedom! 🚗 💨

But before she gets around to changing that insurance, she's got a much more important plan for tonight… **a well earned b**r and a horror movie!** 🍺 🎬 😂

Enjoy your evening, Jess. You've certainly earned it!

A massive congratulations to Connor, who passed his driving test **FIRST TIME!** 👏🥳

Despite having TWO examiners in the car, Connor kept his nerves under control and delivered a fantastic drive, with both examiners complimenting him on an **“excellent” drive!** ⭐

A brilliant result and thoroughly deserved!

Now comes the exciting part… car shopping this weekend! 🚗 And it sounds like Connor will soon be in demand as the taxi service for all his college friends! 😂

Well done, Connor! Enjoy your new-found freedom, good luck with the car shopping and, most importantly, **stay safe on the roads!** 👏

🚗 **𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐈𝐏: 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 “𝐬𝐦𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞” 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝?**

One thing a lot of learner drivers struggle with at first is **keeping a steady road position**.

Quite often, the problem is that they’re looking too close to the front of the car. When that happens, small steering movements can quickly turn into weaving or drifting.

A tip I often use on lessons is to encourage pupils to **look much further ahead** and read the road in front of them.

I also talk about what I call the **“smudge in the road.”**

On many roads, you can see a slightly different strip of tarmac running between the areas most regularly driven over by vehicle tyres.

A simple way I sometimes use this is to ask the pupil to **line the steering wheel up with that smudge** while still keeping their eyes looking well ahead.

At first, quite a few learners feel as though they are **too close to the kerb** when they do this.

In reality, the car will often be sitting much more **centrally in the lane** than they think.

That’s one of the strange things about learning road position — what feels correct from the driver’s seat isn’t always what actually is correct.

The important bit is **not to stare at the smudge**. Keep your vision further ahead, take in the whole road and use the road edges, lane markings and the smudge as extra reference points.

As your observation improves, your steering usually becomes smoother and your road position starts to feel much more natural.

It’s one of those skills that can feel difficult at first… then one day it suddenly clicks. 👍

Parents helping with private practice can use the same idea too — encourage the learner to **look further ahead rather than immediately in front of the bonnet.**

🚗 LIMITED MANUAL DRIVING LESSON AVAILABILITY 🚙

We have a small number of manual driving lesson slots becoming available, and once they’re taken, they’re taken.

One thing we do differently is use fixed weekly lesson slots.
That means your lesson stays on the same day and at the same time every week. No constantly changing days, no wondering when your next lesson will be, and no having to rearrange your free time every week.

If your lesson is Tuesday at 9am, that becomes your regular Tuesday 9am slot.
It makes it much easier to plan around college, work and everything else you have going on.

Slots becoming available:
🚘 Tuesday — 9am to 11am
🚘 Tuesday — 12pm to 2pm
🚘 Wednesday — 12pm to 2pm
🚘 Thursday — 9am to 11am

⚠️ Availability is limited and these are the only manual slots we currently have coming up.

If you’re looking to start manual driving lessons and one of these times works for you, it’s worth getting in touch before somebody else takes it.

𝐍𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬? 𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐧𝐞.
A lot of learners assume that feeling anxious means they’re not doing well.
It doesn’t.

Learning to drive means taking in a huge amount of new information at once, and nerves can easily creep in — especially around roundabouts, busy junctions, faster roads or when the driving test starts getting closer.

Parents can add pressure without meaning to as well, especially when comparing today’s learners with how quickly they learned years ago.
Our latest blog looks at why learner drivers feel nervous, what can make those nerves worse, and practical ways to manage them and build confidence.

If you’re learning to drive — or supporting someone who is — this one is well worth a read.
We teach across Burton upon Trent, Swadlincote, Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Coalville.

As the mornings get darker, the evenings draw in and the weather turns colder and wetter, it’s a good time for learners and parents to give the car a quick seasonal check.

A few simple things can make a big difference:

✅ **Tyres** – check the tread and pressures regularly
✅ **Lights** – make sure all headlights, brake lights and indicators are working
✅ **Wipers** – replace them if they are smearing or struggling to clear the screen
✅ **Screenwash** – keep it topped up and suitable for colder weather
✅ **Battery** – cold weather can expose a weak battery, so don’t ignore slow starting
✅ **Coolant / antifreeze** – make sure the coolant level is correct before temperatures really drop
✅ **Windscreen & mirrors** – keep them clean inside and out for better visibility at night

For learner drivers, there’s another good reason to become familiar with some of these checks.

🚘 **𝐕𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭.**

During the test, you’ll be asked one **“𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐞”** question before you start driving. These can include things such as telling how you would check tyre pressures or tread, head and tail lights are working, checking the coolant level, don't worry you won't have to physically do it.
And one **“𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐞”** question while you’re driving. These can include things such as, using the windscreen washers or operating the demisters.

So learning these checks isn’t just useful for test day — it’s part of becoming a responsible driver once you have your own car too. 👍

Parents helping with private practice can use this as a great opportunity to show learners around the car and explain the basic checks they should get into the habit of doing.

A few minutes now could save a lot of hassle on a cold, wet morning later on. 🌧️❄️

I can’t recommend 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐉𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 highly enough.
My instructor was Andy Tyler and thanks to his patience and his calm and thorough teaching manner, I passed my driving test first time.
I sometimes struggled with my nerves but Andy put me at ease and reassured me which helped to build my confidence. I am very thankful to Andy for all his help.

🎉 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐒𝐒! 🎉

A huge congratulations to Casey, who passed her driving test first time in an automatic with only a couple of minor faults! 🚗 ✅ 👏

A brilliant result and thoroughly deserved after all the hard work she put into her lessons.

Passing her test now gives Casey even more freedom and means she can start expanding her job opportunities and looking further afield for the next step in her career. 💼 🚘

That’s one of the great things about learning to drive — it can open up so many new opportunities.

Well done, Casey! Enjoy your new-found independence and stay safe on the roads. All the best from your instructor Andy and all of us here at Mark Jordan Driving 🥳

As we move further into autumn, more driving lessons, school runs and journeys to work will start happening at **dusk, in full darkness and on darker mornings**.

For learner drivers, this can make familiar roads feel completely different. Pedestrians can be harder to spot, headlights can be distracting, and judging your speed becomes even more important when you can’t see as far ahead.

And for parents helping with private practice, this is a great time to gradually introduce some driving in lower-light conditions — once your learner is ready. 👍

Night driving isn’t something to fear or avoid. It’s another important part of becoming a safe, confident driver.

In our latest blog, we look at:

🌆 Driving safely at dusk
💡 When and how to use your lights
👀 Spotting hazards in reduced visibility
🌙 Driving in full darkness
🌅 Coping with dark morning journeys
🚘 Why learner drivers should gain experience after dark

Whether you’re learning to drive, helping your son or daughter practise, or you’ve been driving for years, there are some useful reminders in this one.
