We've been asked about the Police stance on lane closures in road works and merge in turn situations.

The correct way to do this is to use both lanes up to the merge point then merge in turn, like the signs say. Like a zip.

There are generally advance warnings of the lane closure at 800, 600, 400 and 200 yards before the merge point.

Drivers that queue in one lane and leave the other lane empty just move congestion further back, adding pressure to other junctions and roads that feed in. Same goes for the ones that straddle both lanes well before the merge point. People that do that just hinder progress and may be committing offences.

It's a common sense situation, the one that is further ahead goes first then the one behind.

Those that sit millimetres behind the car in front to protect their precious bit of tarmac and let nobody across are just making things worse for everyone.

Hopefully that clarifies and educates some on how to do things the right way. It's all in the highway code though, it's worth a read even if you've been driving a long time as things change over time.

A child is 9 months in gestation, 17 years being nurtured, loved and cared for, protected from danger, encouraged to study and learn the syllabus for their exams to ensure they achieve good results and secure a successful future.

That’s why as a parent and a driving instructor I will respect that philosophy, I will only allow your children to take a test if I feel they are safe, exactly as I would do with my own!

I can teach them, I can help them, but I can’t mend them or bring them back if something bad happens!

If people want to be just pushed through a test as quick as they can, without enough experience, please don’t contact me. I am not the instructor for you.

I may be an instructor, but my main role is a parent! I won’t take chances 🙏
