Car feeling like a greenhouse in this weather? Getting into a boiling hot car is the absolute worst, so here are 5 quick tricks to cool down your vehicle fast during this British summer:
1. The 'Door Fan' Trick
Roll down the front passenger window. Open and close the driver's door rapidly 3–4 times. This acts like a giant plunger, instantly forcing the trapped, boiling air out of the car.
2. Start with Fresh Air, Then Recirculate
Don't hit 'recirculate' straight away. For the first minute of driving, leave the windows down and set your AC to draw in fresh air from outside to flush the system. Once the cabin drops in temperature, roll up the windows and switch to recirculation mode to keep the cool air locked in.
3. Aim the Vents Upwards
It is tempting to blast the cold air directly into your face, but pointing your vents at the roof is far more effective. Cold air sinks, so aiming high creates a natural convection cycle that cools the entire cabin and back seats much quicker.
4. Blast the Footwells
Hot air rises. Directing your AC to the lower footwell vents forces the heavy, hot air up and out of the open windows when you first set off
5. Use a Reflective Sunshade
Prevention is key. A simple, reflective accordion sunshade on your windscreen drastically lowers dashboard temperatures and stops your steering wheel and gear stick from burning your hands.
Is your air con blowing warm or failing to keep up with the heat? It might be time for an AC de-gas and service. Drop us a message or call the garage to book your vehicle in! 📞👇
