An opportunity for older drivers to engage and check their fitness to continue driving.

Road Policing Officers are hosting a ‘Fitness to Drive’ event at Kirktown Garden Centre, Stonehaven on Friday, 29 November, 2024.

The event, known as ‘Driver Engagement North’, uses an interactive driving simulator to review participants’ reactions, hazard awareness and any vulnerabilities on the road.

The day will run from 10am until 2pm.

The focus of the event is to provide a safe environment for older drivers and their family members to get advice on medical and physical fitness to drive. There will be an opportunity for drivers to test their skills on the driving simulator to see how good their hazard perception and reaction times are.

Anyone who is unable to attend but wishes to seek advice can complete a contact us form on the Police Scotland website.

Think about where and how you park. It could mean life or death for someone.

How would you feel if a poorly parked vehicle delayed firefighters reaching an incident involving your family or property? It's not something anyone wants to imagine happening to them.

But it could happen, and this is why we all need to consider how much space we’re leaving every time we park up.

A 10ft gap is needed to allow a fire engine to pass by, so please make it part of your parking routine to check that there's enough space. If there’s not enough room to let emergency services through, please move your vehicle - someone’s life could one day depend on it.
