A bit of technical graft going on today.
The owner of thIs car has been sent to us by another garage after they diagnosed a failed body control module (BCM) on this VW Polo.

As we are OE registered with Volkswagen Group we have the official online factory tooling to carry out the replacement which is easy enough but more importantly we can program the new BCM online direct from the factory servers.

A complete job as a VW dealer would do but substantially cheaper.

Asnu injector testing and service.

Complete combustion is important, reduces carbon and emissions helps prevent mechanical failures due to running lean and restores lost performance and fuel efficiency.

Get you petrol injectors tested, cleaned and serviced where applicable.

Carrying out a vehicle speed limiter re-configuration.

This 2020 Ford Transit Connect is an ex fleet vehicle that has a speed limited set to 60MPH.

Our customer purchased the vehicle and was unaware of the restriction.

Today I am using genuine Ford diagnostic tooling to configure the speed limit to no limit.

FDRS is the real McCoy when it comes to diagnostics with no limits due to it being the factory tool.

Some more GDI fuel injector testing and cleaning in slow motion action.

Injectors are tested for leakage under 5 bar pressure, we test the spray pattern at diffrent rpm and duty cycles and check the injector spray pattern. We then carry out a flow test and compare it to each other.

We then carry out an ultrasonic clean.

Retest and then replace all seals and filter baskets where applicable.

for the win.

How many garages can carry out walnut blasting carbon removal and test, clean, service gasoline direct injection (GDI) fuel injectors.

This Hyunda Tucson 1.6 GDI has an intermittent misfire, it has been to 2 other repairers that have fitted spark plugs and ignition coils but failed to diagnose and cure the misfire.

The car has not presented the misfire to us which makes it very difficult to diagnose.

We started with the basics, a couple of mechanical engine test including compression and leakages to ensure as far as possible that the engine is mechanically sound.

Next we smoke checked the intake system for leaks.

We then carried out a visual inspection of the inlet for excessive carbon build up, look what we seen.

We suggested, as preventative maintenance (not a cure for the misfire) a walnut blast and injector test/clean.

We are fairly confident this will cure the misfire although we never witnessed it ourselves.

How about some petrol fuel injectors testing!
These are 6 GDI fuel injectors Bosch HDEV6 to be exact from a BMW 3.0 X5 which was a non start vehicle.

We suspected fuel injectors, so we pulled them and tested them on our Brand new petrol injector tester.

As you can see in the video, on the leak test number 4 is just pouring out being stuck open.
I proceed to run sequential spray tests to check operation and fuel spray pattern.

We will lean these and attempt to recover number 4 injector but I fear this is beyond a clean.

All petrol fuel injectors tested, port injectors and GDI/FSI (Dorect injection).
