2008 Ford Focus 1.6 Diesel.

Engine light on dash, RAC diagnosed the egr valve to be faulty. Looking at the codes and reading the live data and yes agreed 100% stuck shut.

New part fitted. Correct clip fitted again after the previous bodge.

Nice set of rears discs and pads, and a set of front discs and pads. New wear sensors fitted, service computer reset. Hand brake shoes adjusted up making sure the handbrake feels the best it can.

Nice surprise to find nearly brand new shoes behind the rear discs.

Abs light on the dash, wheel bearing noise also. The usual bearing walking and damaging the abs sensor.

As you can see the stub axle had no threads left on it. So a second hand part fitted, new bearings, new abs sensor rear set, and a set of new shoes to finish off.

Engine light on dash and car in limp mode.

Looking at the codes and live data the boost pressure sensor was showing 4bar of pressure, and now I can see why.

Also the air intake charge sensor was showing odd readings and this was due to it failing and allowing oil to pass through it in to the plug connector.

Genuine BMW parts fitted, codes cleared road test complete

Air bag light on dash, horn not working, steering light on the dash, all sorts of different issues. Clicking from the steering wheel. Very common issue on these.

VW part fitted all coded back to the car. Unfortunately the steering angle sensor couldn’t re-learn due to the tracking being so far out mechanically. Tracking of the car needed before I can code it as it does not drive in a straight line what so ever.

Engine light on dash and in limp mode. Codes found to show all 4 plugs faulty. Removed all 4 and tested to all be down. New ones fitted.

But a DPF regeneration is also needed. But this had to be put on hold as the timing chain is rattling like mad.

Recommendation to get the timing chain done before driving the car much more.

Customer broke down unfortunately with a good few codes for fuel pressure being low. Removing the fuel filter showed it to be heavily clogged and black. But also as you can see from the picture metal filings in the swirl pot too.

An easy to recognise sign the high pressure fuel pump is failing. After getting all the air out the system, we were back running. It ran just long enough for me to road test it down a big hill and brake down with the same issue occurring. With a long walk back up the hill to my car, a call to the customer, it was decided to let the beast rest in peace.
