So let’s talk about a new car you’ve purchased, it’s had plenty of money spent on it, body work is all clean and overall felt like a good car to purchase.
Fast forwarding that purchase to our full vehicle health check, highlighting several worn items, along with an in depth engine health check…
These pictures attached show the liners are heavily cracked within more than one cylinder, which fast forwards us to our data logging of the vehicle with the tune that’s on it.
Which this tune is using a heavy amount of ignition which usually means more ignition + boost = more cylinder pressure to improve Torque/BHP. Unfortunately in this case, several tables haven’t been modified, resulting in actually less than stock HP and a semi damaged engine due to poor tuning.
Whilst cracked liners are a big concern within the ecoboosts, it doesn’t necessarily mean the engine needs to be replaced yesterday. Until the back wall of the liner has finally cracked, they won’t allow coolant into the cylinders unless they’ve egg shaped the liner. Symptoms of this seeping coolant will usually see a slow fire up, misfires, small loss of coolant, white smoke or if the liner has completely failed, head gasket like symptoms IE Creamy oil cap.
