HOW OLD ARE YOUR TYRES?

It’s something most of us probably don’t think about… until there’s a problem

Even if your tyres still have plenty of tread, age matters too. Over time, rubber can deteriorate, harden and develop cracks, which can affect the tyre’s condition and performance.

There isn’t a simple rule that every tyre must be replaced after a set number of years, but older tyres should be checked regularly, alongside:

🛞 Tread depth
👀 Cracks, cuts or bulges
💨 Tyre pressures
⚠️ Uneven wear
📅 The tyre’s age and overall condition

It was brilliant to see so many familiar faces, meet plenty of new ones and be part of such a fantastic local event.

You remember your MOT date… but when was your last SERVICE?

It’s easy to think an MOT and a service are basically the same thing, but they actually have two very different jobs.

🚦 Your MOT checks whether your vehicle meets the required safety and environmental standards on the day it’s tested.

🔧 Your service is about looking after your car and keeping it running properly. It allows us to check components, replace service items where required and spot signs of wear or developing problems before they potentially turn into bigger, more expensive repairs.

Think of it this way…

MOT = Is your car roadworthy?
SERVICE = Are you looking after it?

So just because your car passed its MOT doesn't mean you should skip its next service!

🛞 When Did You Last Check Your Tyres?

Your tyres are the only part of your car actually in contact with the road, so keeping them in good condition is pretty important

Worn, damaged or incorrectly inflated tyres can affect:

🛑 Braking – especially in wet conditions
🚗 Handling & grip – making your car less predictable on the road
⛽ Fuel efficiency – incorrect pressures can mean you're using more fuel
🛞 Tyre lifespan – uneven or excessive wear could mean replacing them sooner
⚠️ Safety – cracks, bulges and low tread shouldn't be ignored

And with summer road trips, days out and longer journeys, now is a good time to give them a proper check.

Look at your tread depth, tyre pressures and general condition regularly – and don't forget to check for any cuts, cracks or bulges.

The more miles you do, the more important it is to keep an eye on your car. Here are a few simple things to check regularly:

🛞 Tyre pressure and tread – especially before long journeys.
🧊 Coolant level – to help prevent your engine from overheating.
🛢️ Engine oil – low oil can cause serious engine damage.
💡 Lights – make sure everything is working properly.
🚿 Screenwash & wipers – you never know when you'll need them
🔋 Battery – hot weather can put extra strain on older batteries.
