Neglecting fluid changes is the silent killer of vehicles. This visual guide from "Auto Mechanics Center" outlines the six essential fluids that keep your car running, along with their recommended service intervals:
1. The Engine's Blood (Engine Oil)
Interval: Change every 5,000 - 10,000 km.
Why: This is the most critical maintenance task. Fresh oil lubricates moving parts, reduces friction, and carries away heat. Old oil turns into sludge, leading to catastrophic engine failure.
2. Temperature Control (Coolant/Antifreeze)
Interval: Change every 2 to 5 years.
Why: Coolant prevents your engine from overheating in summer and freezing in winter. Over time, its anti-corrosion additives break down, allowing rust to form inside the radiator and engine block.
3. Stopping Power (Brake Fluid)
Interval: Change every 2 years.
Why: Brake fluid attracts moisture. As water content increases, the boiling point drops. Under heavy braking, this water can boil, creating gas bubbles that result in total brake failure (spongy pedal).
4. Smooth Operations (Transmission & Steering)
Transmission Fluid: Change every 60,000 - 80,000 km. Vital for smooth gear shifts and protecting the gearbox internals.
Power Steering Fluid: Change every 60,000 - 100,000 km. Ensures the steering remains light and protects the power steering pump and rack.
5. Visibility (Windshield Washer Fluid)
Interval: Check and refill periodically.
Why: Often overlooked until you need it most. Keeping this full ensures you can clear mud, bugs, or salt from your windshield for safe driving.
