Turning Left? Mind the Gap! 🚗⬅️

Coming up to a give-way junction to turn left? Get your position sorted on the approach.

Check your mirrors, signal in good time and follow the kerb’s shape where appropriate—keeping a safe clearance without leaving an unnecessary gap.

🚴 Always check for cyclists on your left. Never move across their path or squeeze them against the kerb.

Save this for your next lesson and follow David McLean for more Southend driving tips!

Answer: Are You Too Close? 🚗⏱️ | UK Theory Test Challenge

The correct answer is B: at least a two-second gap ✅

On a dry, high-speed road, you should leave at least a two-second gap between your vehicle and the one in front. This gives you enough time to react and stop safely if traffic slows suddenly.

In wet conditions, double the gap to at least four seconds. In icy conditions, leave an even greater distance.

UK Theory Test Question
Question: What is the national speed limit on a single carriageway road for cars and motorcycles?
• A) 30 mph
• B) 50 mph
• C) 60 mph (Correct)
• D) 70 mph
Explanation: On a single carriageway road (a road where traffic in both directions is not separated by a central reservation), the general national speed limit for cars, motorcycles, and car-derived vans is 60 mph, unless local signs indicate otherwise. On dual carriageways and motorways, the limit rises to 70 mph.

It’s a maximum, not a target—adjust your speed to the conditions.
