📢 The rules for booking a practical car driving test are changing.

From 31 March 2026, learner drivers and approved driving instructors (ADIs) will only be able to change a driving test booking up to 2 times.

A change includes:
- changing the date or time
- changing the test centre
- swapping an appointment with another learner

If you’re an ADI, please make sure your pupils only book their test when they’re ready as swapping between pupils will count towards this limit. You can set times when you're available to take your pupils to their driving tests. This stops your pupils from booking tests at times that do not work for you.

👉 When this comes into force, everyone with a driving test booked will have 2 changes available, regardless of how many changes they may have already made.

This change is part of the outcome of our consultation to improve the way driving tests are booked.

Important information for new pupils 🚗
To take driving lessons with me, pupils must be able to speak and understand English fluently. This is essential for safety on the road and to ensure lessons are effective. Clear communication allows us to talk through what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and how to correct any mistakes.

The day you stop asking and start doing

There is a moment in learning to drive that most people do not notice at first.

You stop asking what to do next.
You stop checking every decision out loud.
You stop waiting for reassurance.

Not because you suddenly know everything.
Not because you are perfect.
But because your brain has started to trust what it has learned.

This is the invisible shift that happens before test readiness.

The controls feel lighter.
The decisions feel quieter.
You are no longer reacting to the road.
You are reading it.

This moment does not mean you are finished learning.
It means the foundations are holding.

If your lessons feel harder just before this point, that is normal.
It is often the sign that everything is coming together.

Confidence does not arrive with noise.

It arrives with calm.
