This Porsche Cayman GT4 lost drive while launching out of the pit lane at Goodwood.⁠
⁠
When we stripped it down, we found the nearside driveshaft had completely separated from the gearbox after the securing bolts had backed themselves out.⁠
⁠
Thankfully, no damage was caused to the gearbox or surrounding components, and a new driveshaft had this GT4 back in action.⁠
⁠
Track days are hard on cars - sometimes it’s the smallest components that cause the biggest problems.⁠

🚨 One failed component… meant a full turbo replacement.⁠
⁠
This Land Rover Discovery arrived in limp mode with a red warning light on the dash. Diagnostics quickly pointed to the turbo actuator - which had seized in the closed position, causing damage to the turbo itself.⁠
⁠
That meant the only correct repair was a full turbocharger replacement.⁠
⁠
On this platform, access is no small job - extensive strip-down required just to reach the turbo assembly.⁠
⁠
A costly reminder that small failures can turn into major repairs if left unchecked.⁠

This Week in the Workshop 🔧 From track-ready upgrades to fixing the faults that affect performance and drivability 👇🏽

1. VW Golf R - New top mount bearings fitted, MOT completed and full geometry setup carried out to cure suspension noise and sharpen handling. 🔧
2/3. BMW M4 - Track day preparation underway 🏁 AST 5100 coilovers, Suspension Secrets rear toe & camber arms, MOTON control arm bushes and an upgrade to Motul 300V Competition Oil for maximum performance on circuit.
4. Audi R8 - Quicksilver exhaust fitted, unlocking a sharper soundtrack and giving this V10 the noise it deserves 🔊
5. Porsche Macan - Engine and gearbox service completed, keeping maintenance up to date and helping prevent costly drivetrain issues.
6/7. Porsche Boxster - Gearbox removed to replace a worn flywheel causing vibration and drivability concerns.
8. Range Rover Sport - Full service carried out to keep this daily driver reliable and performing as it should.
9. Mercedes E63 AMG - Full wheel alignment completed using our in-house Beissbarth Q.Lign 3D system, improving stability, tyre wear and handling precision.

A worn wheel bearing isn’t something to ignore.⁠
⁠
This Range Rover Sport came into the workshop for a wheel bearing replacement after developing symptoms commonly associated with bearing wear.⁠
⁠
Typical signs include:⁠
- A humming or droning noise that increases with road speed⁠
- Vibration through the steering wheel⁠
- Uneven tyre wear⁠
- Noise that changes when loading and unloading the vehicle through corners⁠
⁠
Wheel bearings play a critical role in supporting the vehicle and allowing the wheels to rotate smoothly. If left unchecked, excessive wear can lead to further damage and compromise vehicle safety.⁠

If you’ve noticed any of these symptoms, it’s worth having the vehicle inspected before the problem develops further.⁠
