The yellow car appears to be beyond the stop line and sitting in the junction area while the traffic lights facing it are red.
From a still photo we cannot say for certain what happened, but one possibility is that the driver entered on a green light expecting traffic ahead to move, then became trapped when it didn’t.
The lights changed and they were left blocking the junction.

It is a good example of why we teach:
⚠️ Do not enter a junction unless your exit is clear.

Too many drivers focus on the green light and forget to look beyond it.
A green light gives permission to proceed if safe to do so, but it does not guarantee space on the other side.

🚦 GREEN DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN GO

The driver ahead may have entered on a green light.

The problem is they were looking at the traffic light, not the road beyond it.

If your exit isn’t clear, think carefully before entering. Otherwise you can end up stranded in the junction, blocking other traffic when the lights change.

Good driving is about planning ahead, not just reacting to the colour of a light.

How many times do you see this happen every day? 👀

(Interestingly the comments on the original post were that there was no crime committed - is that how we're going to benchmark decent driving? The fact it is inconsiderate and prevents effective use of a road system built to create ease of flow is immaterial? 🤷‍♀️)

Another handy Top Tip, this time from Francis.

Often drivers, particularly novice drivers, feel under pressure to do things at the same speed as everyone else.

To be able to cognitively process huge amounts of information, take your foot off of the gas pedal and take your time.

Fast and careless v slower and safer - what will you choose?

I was on a road trip yesterday taking in several motorways and dual carriageways on route.

The amount of drivers mindlessly in the middle lanes without having any fathomable reason was mind blowing.

"Undertaking" is an offence, so what are we to do? Cross 2 lanes out to pass them, then 2 lanes back, while they just sit there, eyes ahead, no thought to or awareness of anyone else.

Reasons people sometimes give are: "I pay my road tax so I can use whichever lane I want" or "being in the outer lane will damage my car less" um how????

There's several words for people who drive like it "inconsiderate" "selfish" "mindless"

I often wonder whether it's lack on confidence in their ability to change lanes that causes them to sit there....if so, learn how to change lanes 🤷‍♀️

People please don't hog lanes...if you do you're a bit of a 🐽

This is a public announcement; please ensure that if you are going to use the roads in and around the UK, make sure you have vehicle insurance and you're driving in accordance with your licence!

This evening, PC BROWN and PC GOUDIE from the Rural Crime Taskforce spotted a vehicle driving near to Havant. This vehicle was seen to use the wrong lane when entering a roundabout, cutting over lanes and continuing along Havant Road towards Cosham. The vehicle was soon brought to a stop which highlighted the problems:

Driver on their own using only a provisional drivers licence and not being covered on the vehicle insurance.

Straight forward vehicle seizure, a selection of points, a hefty bill coming their way and a long walk home.

Many instructors teach nervous learners successfully.

Specialising in nervous pupils means the instructor has intentionally developed strategies, lesson structures, and communication styles specifically designed to help anxious learners build confidence safely and progressively — not just learn the mechanics of driving.

This little top tip from Stuart is one of his favorite little phrases... and when he applies it he recognizes its value even more.
