Rip Off Britain TV- Fantasy Island & Mellors Group - Caravan Sales & Sites Consumer awareness relating to static caravan sales and sites at Fantasy Island Ingoldmells operated

Here is how Fantasy Island treat customers caravans when out cutting grass on plots that are allowed time after time to overgrow on Eastgate and Sunnymead sites

Staff informed of what was happening and initially stopped but later carried on cutting

The member of staff in the video is only following instructions to cut the grass using equipment provided

Wonder why so much damage and broken windows occur on static caravans……here is why

We visit again and we find potentially miss leading advertisements at Fantasy Island caravan sales on Sea Lane Ingoldmells

During our visit we found this Willerby Summer static caravan on sale at £14995 and it has around 8 years onsite and it states “double glazing” on the advertisement in the window, so we checked and it appears to have single glazed metal windows and a metal single glazed door

We are not saying they are definitely miss leading potential consumers because that’s up to trading standards to decide but we cannot see double glazing here

Fantasy Island has previously stated they introduced the age limit, so that standards of caravans improved at the point of sale which would include double glazing and central heating at least, yet this seems to have single glazing and no central heating

This isn’t the only advertisement we have seen today stating something about a caravan that seems not to be correct

This isn’t the first time we have visited Fantasy Island and found similar issues

This has been shared with us about disabled parking for caravan users at Fantasy Island Ingoldmells on the Eastgate site

Fantasy island have put posts in now restricting vehicles on the Eastgate site making it harder for people to get to their caravans to unload, load or even park nearby, previously parking has been available on certain parts of the site but now it’s being restricted

A question that was asked of Fantasy Island relates to disability spaces, which there are none available for caravan users to use during their stay (unless you pay) and taking into account posts preventing parking, loading/unloading on the site, it’s left caravan users having to park more that 200 meters from the site and have to pay if they want to use the disabled spaces because fantasy island won’t help caravan users with disabilities etc

Obviously parking a lot further away isn’t going to help either and this post isn’t about paying for disabled spaces, it’s about people who cannot use their caravan without having to walk a long way which for some people causes great difficulty

Yet people renting a caravan directly with Fantasy Island can use the main car park including disabled spaces if they wish and can do free of charge

Shocking lack of care and respect for private caravan owners and users and especially disabled users

Sooooooo many empty plots to fill

It would seem Fantasy Island Ingoldmells owned by Mellor’s Group are desperate to get people to fill all those mounting empty plots on Sunnymead and Eastgate sites by now trying to get people to bring their caravans onto site

Perhaps had Fantasy Island not sold caravans to people implying no age limit, took the the money and then changed the agreement the plots may still be full now

Prior to Fantasy Island and Mellor’s Group changing the agreements with caravan owners both sites used to be full and there was a waiting list for plots and since the changes existing owners have left leaving dozens of empty plots around both sites

BUY A STATIC CARAVAN TODAY……be prepared you might not be able to stay

Don’t be the next family to loose your holiday home, appear on BBC RIP OFF BRITAIN or simply be forced to leave the site

The caravan sales team at Fantasy Island caravan sales on Sea Lane Ingoldmells near Skegness have previously sold caravans leading buyers to believe they could stay onsite with no age limit to the sites and just 9 weeks after the sales, those customers received letters to tell them to buy another caravan or leave on time

Existing owners had agreements stating no age limits and now both sites operated by Fantasy Island which are Eastgate and Sunnymead are over half empty with more owners due to have to leave in the coming weeks

Fantasy Island caravan sales staff will now tell you that there is a 22 year age limit to the sites, but the truth is that date is calculated from the date the caravan was manufactured and NOT the date you purchase

Furthermore the site licence agreement that existing owners received at the start of this year DO NOT make any reference to you being able to stay onsite for any length of time, which means that the agreement of the future of a caravan is just words at the sales process and not something that you will have for the future………..so buy today but be prepared you might not be able to stay

Have you or are you looking to purchase decking for your holiday home…….

We think everyone knows that the purchase of decking through holiday parks is one of the most significant ‘rip offs’ across UK Holiday Parks.

They insist on owners buying decking through the park using their ‘approved suppliers’ and refuse permission for you to seek quotes or have your own suppliers carry out the work. Often they cite reasons such as ‘maintaining the aesthetic standard of the park’, when what they really mean is we want a substantial cut of the money for free..

This anti competitive practice often results in caravan owners paying 100% more than they would have had to, had they had access to a free market. It is our position that these practices breach regulations, and as such, companies that carry them out should be prosecuted and caravan owners should be reimbursed the thousands that they have overpaid.
Consumer protection regulations provide for redress in circumstances where consumers have been misled when purchasing goods, and, just as with the PPI scandal, you should be entitled to a refund of the amount you have paid over what the market rate would have been.

We are asking all our group members to go through their Licence Agreements, Park Rules, Correspondence, Emails, letters, brochures, etc, to find anything that the parks have provided which tells you that you have to use their ‘approved’ (or similar) suppliers.

Do you have any correspondence from parks where they refuse permission to use your own supplier?

Do you have an invoice for your decking?

Do you have Pitch Improvement Policy docs or requests?

We want to hear from you, what parks are/were you on, what park company, what decking supply company?

What size was the decking?

What price did you pay?

Did you pay the park or the supplier?

Did the park do anything or simply place the order?

We want you to email any information you have which shows they have restricted your access to the shop around by insisting you buy through them or their preferred supplier.
Please post comments as well as emailing us information.
