Hello on this beautiful sunny breezy Monday morning!
I have been and still am genuinely absolutely blown away, humbled and overwhelmed by the most amazing, kind, supportive and caring response to my news on Friday.
I am lost for words and was not emotional until all your lovely comments.
THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart I don’t know how to show my appreciation and I will endeavour to thank all of you individually in a more personal way than this but until then please know every single word is being cherished and once again the community, my friends and customers and locals have made Jurassic what it is or now was!
I am sitting with it and all your kindness and just getting used the change!

This photo to me sums up Jurassic and it’s what I always wanted it to do!

What a ride!

Thank you!

END OF AN ERA!

It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to sadly close Jurassic paddle sports. What started 13 years ago as a small, simple and humble venture lasted for over a decade and became something super special but sadly as times change it’s become increasingly more difficult to make it sustainable. It’s been the most amazing experience but for so many factors that wont explain now it’s become harder and harder to make it work. It’s been a long time coming and I hold my head high knowing it’s been a positive addition to Sidmouth beach and community.
For now I can’t find the words to summarise what’s been a lifestyle and so much more than a business so I will just say a huge heartfelt THANK YOU to all our wonderful customers, local community, friends and of course all my amazing staff I have had over the years. You all know who you are but I will be in touch! I feel a party may be needed! There are so many people
I want to thank and I will do it in time.
To quote my good friend Toby who was there at the beginning - Aloha!

Best playground in the world and does so much good for us all!
Let’s all do our best to look after our beaches and seas no matter where we are.
Happy world ocean day!

Huge thanks and recognition to the team of lifeguards and their work this half term week on Sidmouth beach.
A truly lovely bunch of young people showing professionalism and compassion, enthusiasm and competence. Great ambassadors for the red and yellow! The lifeguard service on sidnouth beach is independent and fully funded and provided by Sidmouth independent lifeboat.

All the lifeguards around the country have been working tirelessly all half term.
Thank you to the RNLI for their inspiring work and the amazing job they do, they definitely set the bar high 👊

Thank you - once a lifeguard always a lifeguard!

We have some easterly winds forecast for tomorrow blowing from north east and south east gusting 25mph + at times. This wind will potentially disrupt the lovely calm conditions we have seen over the last few days. The weather is still set to be fine and warm so still beach weather but please be mindful the sea may be different with a lot more movement and possible currents and Rips.

👍 - Swim between the red and yellow flags
👍 - If we have surf look for the black and white checkered flags for hard craft
👍 - Avoid swimming near, around and between the the rock groynes and islands.
👍 - listen to lifeguards advice and respect the signage
👍 - if you need help on the coast dial 999 and ask for the coastguard

We are Closed / open in July!m

CLOSED FOR HALF TERM - OPEN FOR SUMMER HOLIDAYS.

Remember in a coastal emergency dial 999 and ask for the coastguard

Tomorrow marks the return of our Beach Lifeguards for the summer season! 🌊☀️

Our lifeguards will be patrolling the beach throughout the summer half term, the summer school holidays, and weekends in between - helping to keep everyone safe while enjoying the coast.

Over recent weeks, the team has completed intensive surf lifeguard training at the lifeguard unit, Sidmouth Beach and Sidmouth Lifeboat Station. Training included both classroom learning and practical beach exercises covering:

🛟Lifeguard duties and procedures
🛟Beach environment, weather and tides
🛟Rescue techniques
🛟First aid and basic life support, including defibrillator use and treatment of major bleeds

During training, the team responded to a real-life emergency. Lifeguards carried out a primary survey, administered pain relief, and safely extracted the casualty using a stretcher before handing over care to the ambulance service.

Training was delivered by Surf Life Saving Great Britain trainer assessors, alongside Rhys John from Harlyn Surf School, and assessed by highly respected trainer Chris Rae, who has more than 35 years of experience in surf lifesaving training.

This season sees five returning lifeguards - including two entering their sixth year on patrol - alongside five new recruits. Four of the new lifeguards have progressed through the ranks at Sidmouth Surf Lifesaving Club, highlighting the strength of local training and development within the club.

The team also welcomed a volunteer trainer from the surf lifesaving club to complete the qualification course, helping strengthen the partnership between the club, the lifeguard service, and the wider community.

To continue building their skills, lifeguards also attended a three-day maritime casualty care course.

Please remember to stay safe on the beach this summer and speak to the lifeguards if you need any advice or assistance 🧡.

Hello - May half term!

For the first time in 13 years since we first started I have made the decision not to open for the May half term - we will be closed for the week and we won’t open until the main summer holidays. Looking at the forecast I may regret this but decisions and plans have to be made.

The weather is set to be good, settled and potentially hot so the beaches around the U.K. including Sidmouth may be busy.

Lifeguard services are in full swing and Sidmouth lifeguard service starts patrols for the half term week on Saturday the 23rd of May from 10 am - 6 pm daily.

The weather and temperatures may be warm and hot but the water is still on the cold side with an average water temp of 12 degrees. Be mindful of the cold water if not acclimatised as it can cause people to get into difficulty - cold water shock is real.

Remember

👍 - If you need help on the coastline - beaches, sea or cliffs dial 999 and ask for the coastguard
👍 - wear a bouyancy aid if on a craft
👍 - check the weather, wind and tides and ask Lifeguards for advice if unsure
👍 - know your limits and respect the water
👍 - if you end up in difficulty in the water “FLOAT TO LIVE”
👍 - stay away from cliffs - cliff falls and collapses are common
👍 - pay attention to signage and respect the messages.
👍 - if on a lifeguard beach swim between the red and yellow flags!
👍 - respect the lifeguards - they are so well trained and they are there to help.

Thank you! Sundays sale no longer happening!
We have sold everything today and have nothing left to sell so tomorrow’s sale ( Sunday) will not be happening.
Thank you to everyone who came up today for being patient and pleasant and for helping us out by giving some of our kit a new home.
