I cant believe whats happening at times with Fast Trak EDT. We were just accredited to carry out audits on behalg of the DVSA well the latest is quite something.
An audit of the US Air Force (Europe) for the carriage of Dangerous Goods.
Not a bad gig eh?

In the meantime from our motorbike training side just because its hot dont discard your protective clothes. Just the other day I saw a bloke on his bike in shorts and vest with a young lad, aged about 8 or 9, similarly dressed. A 20 miles and hour spill will be like sandpapering yourself with an electric drill.

In 1993, Essential Driver Training and its motorcycle division Fast Trak was opened in a tiny two room craft centre in the north of Shrewsbury. Almost thirty years later we are still going from strength to strength.

Early days yet but today I signed a contract to carry out LGV Driver Training, Driving Assessments, Driver CPC and Transport Manager CPC, plus possibly Fork Lift and Loler for a National Company with over 11,000 employees. (Not all drivers) We are in the first stage of arranging dates but we may need help from experienced drivers and CPC trainers. If you are interested please call us for a chat.

What a great week at Fast Trak. Busy or what? CBTs and DAS every day. Friday in particular was a very good day. Four CBTers plus DAS including one very brave rider who successfully took his Mod One and Mod Two on the same day.

On Friday, by about 1pm it was hotter in Shrewsbury than Death Valley.

The Diner was packed with riders coming from all over using the Bier Brew Passport, and on last weekend and this one, we also had Driver CPC courses running at the same time. On Tuesday, normally a quiet day as we dont often do CBTs on Tuesdays, apart from our normal stuff, one of us was in South Wales teaching people to drive massive big shunter trucks.

This coming week looks like a full diary for bike training in addition to fleet car training mainly in Shewsbury and Ellesmere, but then more shunter truck training just outside Glasgow. The shunter trucks we are training people to drive are brilliant, they look like great big Tonka Toys.

And to keep us occupied this coming week we start carrying out audits for the DVSA.

Our tour of Austria and Southern Germany in four weeks time is fully booked so lets hope the weather holds out.

For those of you interested in bike tours, after Germany we will be doing a short tour of Ireland, date to be finalised but it will be basically a long weekend. More info later.

Just a very short note and a couple of points if I may. Firstly I am not retiring ("well thats good news said my wife Jane, at least you wont be under my feet all day leaving disruption everywhere you go") and masssive thanks for the lovely comments many or you put on my original post. I am though going to extend what most of us at Fast Trak enjoy and that is to arrange more tours. We start with Germany in June but that is already full. Sept or October we are doing a short tour of Ireland, north and south, and in May we are going to America to do our fabulous West Coast Canyons tour.
Second point a good friend of mine now living in Cornwall - that's his clue) has been the head of huge companies employing thousands of people. And all the time I knew him I never saw him do much work, but he was more successful than anyone else I know. I asked him one day "what do you actually do?" as it wasnt evident. "I hold meeting and I put people in places who know what they are doing and give them the authority to do it. Then I dont actually have to do a lot myself" His advice to me was simple "surround yourself with people you trust and are good at what they do"
Well, it's kept me going for thirty two years so it must work.

I am very lucky in the thirty years I have been in the business of training having retired once from the Police Service, to be surrounded by a great team, particularly of course Serena who has kept me in check for over 25 years, plus of course our great Diner staff, our back up admin and our brilliant instructors, During that time we have achieved an awful lot, from having one learner car operating from a small rented officer to where we are today, being preferred service providers for massive companies, M&S, ABP, Olleco, MOD, etc. We have trained more motorbike instructors than any other company in the Country, in addition to the 5000 + learners, we are DfT Accredited, I have become a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Logistics and Transport, we were the first training company to be able to offer Post Test (ERS) training, we can certify Instructors, we have even appeared before the United States Senate in Nevada for services relating to motorcycling and I think we are pretty unique in that we have been invited to Top Gun in the USA, both of those items courtesy of our very good friend Dan Gilbert, former US Navy and Law Enforcement. I am now personally incredibly proud to have been appointed as a Lead Auditor to investigate and audit transport training companies throughout the UK on behalf of the DVSA. This comes after just carrying our an audit, reporting to the Office of the Traffic Commisioner. My wife Jane, (and Serena) keep telling me to retire, but life would seem a bit duff if I packed up now. Thanks to everyone for their tremendous support. and thanks to our customers and friends who just keep coming back.

Nice to get comments like the one just received following an ERS instructor course.
"Hi Dave, I just wanted to thank you for the training last week. I learned such a lot from you and Jeff in terms of riding, instructing and setting myself as an instructor. It was also a lot of fun"
I would like to add though that whilst the email refers to myself and Jeff, whilst we were swanning around exploring the County and beyond, Andy, Steve and JP were busy getting others throught there DVSA tests and CBTs (and hopefully onto ERS training) and Serena, Marie and Sharon were feeding everyone, every day, and Sam was getting frustrated looking after the office, answering the phone, shifting paper sending out information, whilst we were all enjoying ourselves.
