Very important Notice
From 1st JULY 2026, light goods vehicles (LGV) over 2.5 tonnes that are used for INTERNATIONAL journeys between the UK and EU for hire and reward must have a smart tachograph 2 fitted.
If you’re being paid to drive a LGV over 2.5 tonnes between the EU and UK on and after this date, it will need to have a tachograph fitted and you will need to comply with the assimilated drivers’ hours rules to remain compliant.
Does this apply to your vehicle?
A vehicle, or vehicle and trailer combination, doesn’t need a smart tachograph 2 fitted if: it’s being used on an international journey for the driver or operator’s own account and driving does not constitute the driver’s main activity, or it weighs over 2.5 tonnes and less than 3.5 tonnes and is operating only within the UK
Simple version:

And they say the youth of today aren’t interested in getting their hands dirty and learning a trade. Here we can see Stephen showing our apprentice Harrison and our two work experience placements Tyler and Brandon how to replace handbrake shoes, brake discs and brake pads on this 2023 Mercedes Vito after a rag managed to wrap its self around the prop causing the pinion seal to fail and in turn spraying the whole rear axle and near side brakes with gear oil.

From a business perspective there is nothing that we like more than to see a 23 year old showing the three 18 year olds how we do the job correctly.

Well today is finally the day where we have experienced this for the first time.

Customer states “I have a knocking noise coming from the passenger front of my car, it can’t be the lower arm as I had some fitted 3 weeks ago. They were fitted by a mobile mechanic but I got them off eBay.”

Mechanic states “ok we will have a look and let you know.”

Fast forward 20 minutes and we have found the issue. Turns out a company on eBay that is supplying lower suspension arms for £20 is giving them with the added bonus of a Bluetooth rear bush. New arm ordered from our local parts supplier at a cost of £40 and the knocking noise has gone.

Moral of the story?? Buy cheap(ish) buy atleast twice.

They say it can’t be done. We say hold my coat. This beautiful Landrover defender 110 has been a week’s worth of phone calls emails and headaches. Others look at these problems and say “nope, not possible”. With over 60 years of combined experience in the tachograph industry our view is a simple one. Just because it hasn’t been done doesn’t mean it can’t be. This vehicle has absolutely no way of producing an electronic speed signal….. well that was the case before we got involved and with some first class manufacturing from Bex’s 4x4 we managed what many thought was just a pipe dream. It has been a pleasure to be able to get Hitch 2 Pitch Caravan & Trailer Towing UK to Spain on the road legally with a brand new smart 2 tachograph system in place. Thanks to Blair for trusting us with our thoughts and thanks to Bex and partner for a fantastic job done.

If you tow a trailer for hire or reward or have any other vehicle that you may think falls into tachograph regulations then please get in touch with a member of our team who will not accept “it can’t be done”.

We have recently presented our charity partner for 2025, The Stroke Association with a cheque for £751.99 for monies raised at events last season! 🏏

Club Treasurer Kenny Hamer is pictured with Vice Chairman Jon Holt, who commented: “We are delighted to have been able to support such a great charity this year and despite having to reschedule our main event, we were able to raise a great sum. Thanks go out to everyone involved!”
