⚡ Check your electric hook-up lead before every trip!

Your hook-up cable spends a lot of time outdoors, where it can be damaged by vehicles, sharp edges, moisture and general wear. A quick check before plugging in can help you spot a problem early.

Before connecting:

✅ Uncoil the cable fully, especially when using high-powered appliances
✅ Check the plugs, sockets and cable for cuts, splits, crushing or scorch marks
✅ Make sure the connections are clean, dry and undamaged
✅ Keep connectors off wet ground where possible
✅ Route the cable where it won’t become a trip hazard or be driven over
✅ Never repair a damaged lead with tape or use unsuitable household extensions

If the cable, plug or socket shows signs of overheating or damage, stop using it and have it professionally inspected or replaced.

🚽 Look after your toilet cassette seal!

If the toilet blade becomes stiff to open or close, don’t force it. The rubber lip seal may be dry, dirty or starting to deteriorate, and forcing the mechanism could cause damage or lead to unpleasant leaks.

To help keep it working smoothly:

✅ Empty and rinse the cassette regularly
✅ Clean around the blade and rubber seal carefully
✅ Use a lubricant specifically designed for caravan toilet seals
✅ Avoid petroleum-based oils or household sprays, as they may damage the rubber
✅ Never force a stiff or jammed blade
✅ Replace a swollen, split or leaking seal

If the mechanism remains stiff or the cassette is leaking, JB Caravans can inspect it and supply the correct replacement parts.

This caravan arrived at JB Caravans with a grill that wouldn’t stay alight.

After carrying out the correct checks and diagnosing the fault, the problem was repaired and the grill was fully tested to make sure it was operating safely and correctly again. ✅

⚠️ COMBUSTION READINGS AREN’T OPTIONAL TO US — THEY’RE AN ESSENTIAL PART OF A PROPER SERVICE ⚠️

This video from Motorhome Matt explains why it is so important to check the combustion readings from both boiler and fridge flues—especially when those flues discharge into an awning.

An appliance may appear to be working normally, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it is burning cleanly or safely. Poor combustion can produce dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, which you cannot see, smell or taste.

At Gas Safe registered JB Caravans, combustion analysis forms part of our servicing and gas-safety procedures where applicable. We use professional equipment to measure the flue gases and confirm that appliances are operating safely—not simply assume they are because the flame is lit.

✅ Boiler flue checks
✅ Fridge flue checks
✅ Combustion analysis
✅ Gas-pressure and soundness testing
✅ Professional printed results where required
✅ Work completed by a Gas Safe registered engineer

This is particularly important when an awning is fitted, as fumes can potentially collect within an enclosed space.
