Hello to everyone. So update on Rage. We have decided to downgrade from a business to a personal brand. In our future we will focus on educating those who are interested in all things automotive. As soon as time allows we will setup an academy that will cover many aspects of automotive, engineering, manufacturing electronics, metallurgy and many more. This has been on my bucket list for a long time and we have started working on the setup of this and will start filming as soon as time allows.

A lot has changed since 2020 and the challenged that covid brought to us all. Some new things have been added and some old things have been removed. From now on it is clear to us that a more digital form of content would be best suited for the future of Rage and we are excited to bring everyone this content.

Thanks to everyone for the support over the years. I can finally say the hardest times are behind us for good. Many new things are coming.

Remember to keep the revs up.

Hello everyone. It is with a heavy heart that i write this. In recent events it has come to my attention that injuries i have stustained in an accident from 4 years back have unkowingly to me gotten worse over time. Since they happened gradually i never noticed it until now. Following yesterdays meeting with occupational therapist it has become clear that i am physically unable to do the work i have been doing for so long. At this stage i am unable to carry an averaged weighted component for a short distance without risk if falling over and my left hand is unable to lift more that 3kg, slightly more than a 2L coke bottle.

Maneuvering things like heads cranshafts wheels is risky as i might potentially drop them or fall over. Greatly extending the time it takes to do work. In short my left leg and left hand doesnt work anymore.

It is needless to say that things are not going to carry on the way that they did. I wa sunder the impression it was just old age but apparantly what im experiencing is from the 2018 accident and has gradually been decreasing over time until where we are now.

I am not certain where i will take Rage from here. For those who dont know Rage is short for "Garage".

I am currently busy setting up an Academy to cover all the engineering topics such as basic mettalurgey. Thermodynamics as well as coding electrical and many others. However this is stil a work in progress and far from completion.

Am i done with rage? Probably not. Iv been in thus field all my life and going to anything else seems rather unthinkable. However my mobility has made it impossible to do what i used to without risk of damage or injury.

I will go back to the drawing board but it looks like online education is going to be a direction we wil head towards. A lot of chnages have happened in the last year but we wil adapt and persevre as we always have.

A short little write up about shocks.

In the photo below we can see a new shock infront of an old bent shock that is being replaced.

Although the diffrence is minor the effect on your suspension components are far bigger.

This will lead to excessive tyre wear as well as place strain on the cars wheelbearings and as a result the vehicle wheel alignment cannot he done properly if at all. Excessive tyre wear wil also be present.

In this case the car made a whining sound as if a wheelbearing was worn. Upon inspecting the wheelbearing it was found that the component did not need replacing as there was no play on the wheel hub. It was found that the shock was bent. Upon replacing the shock the noise disapeared as together with the shudder on the steering wheel.

To determine if your shock is bent it is better to go for wheel alignment and inform the technician you suspect a shock is bent. It is very difficult to determine with your eye if a shock is bent because usually the difference is very small. In this case the bend was severe and was easily visable.

If left unattended the vehicle may wear out wheelbearings very fast and wear on the tyre will also be uneven or excessive. In some cases the tyre will start to bounce slightly due to the dampening not working as it should affecting handeling and vehicle safety. This results in a humming tyre noise when driving aboute 80km/h.

Total repair time was about 4 hours and the cost for left and right shock replacment came to R3500.

We hope that this information will he helpful to other persons in the future.
