We’re proud to offer this beautiful 1974 Volkswagen Beetle 1600, presented in excellent condition and remaining remarkably original, having been preserved in its unmodified form.
This South African import deserves particular praise for its condition. Vehicles originating from this dry-climate part of the world are often renowned for their structurally solid condition and this example is no exception.
It is understood that this Beetle had just one owner throughout its time in South Africa before being imported to the UK and registered here in July 2024. Since then, it has been cherished by three UK custodians, the current owner being a loyal customer of ours.
Presented in a stunning shade of metallic caramel gold, the paintwork appears subtle in the shade yet comes to life in direct sunlight. The Beetle retains all of its period-correct South African features, including Sprint Star wheels, “Elephant’s Foot” taillights, and front wing reflectors. The bodywork, chrome bumpers and trims are all in excellent condition, with only a handful of minor imperfections that are only worth mentioning in the spirit of being exceptionally critical.
Turning your attention to the underside, it is presented in rock-solid condition with a small repair to the battery tray.
Moving inside, the car features all of its original dashboard components. The upholstery is finished in brown vinyl, giving off a vintage contrast with the exterior. The interior presents itself in fantastic condition, with the exception of some minor wear to the drivers seat.
Power comes from its original 1,600cc twin-port engine, which starts readily on the key, runs smoothly and has recently benefited from a service.
Overall, this Beetle is honest, full of character and most importantly, exceptionally solid. Having undergone a thorough inspection by ourselves, along with a number of subtle mechanical refinements, it is ready to be enjoyed on the road immediately.
