The facts about car seat law in 2017...

CAR SEAT LAW CHANGES - How are you affected?

We keep being asked about the changes taking place on March 1st 2017. The number of myths is amazing - so here are the facts!

There is no change to existing seats, only the regulations on new ones. So all required changes are being placed on the manufacturers.
The new seats (I-size) are being rated by age not weight. A baby will remain rear facing until 15 months. This position is up to 75% safer in case of a collision!

As always, if they are in the front seat airbags MUST be turned off.
Recommendation is to have them in the back as this provides added safety and protection. (But it's not a legal requirement) Make sure your seat is rated for your car and the desired seat position.

The latest advice from Better Driver Training:
MOBILE PHONE LAW

From 1st March 2017 drivers will face fines of £200 and will get 6 points on their licence if they are seen on their mobile phone while driving.

Your case could also go to court and you could be disqualified from driving or riding and get a maximum fine of £1,000. Drivers of buses or goods vehicles could get a maximum fine of £2,500.

NEW DRIVERS - This will mean that in the first two years since passing you will loose your licence under the New Drivers Act and be coming back to Better Driver Training to retake your Theory AND Practical tests!

ACCOMPANYING DRIVERS - These laws also apply to those supervising Learner Drivers.

Hand free use is still allowed (this does NOT include holding it while on speaker!), However studies show this is still MORE dangerous than drink driving!

TAXI DRIVERS - Note that those using mobile apps to accept work, like Uber, will be unable to accept work while driving.
