Got a puncture? It might not mean you need a new tyre.

Many punctures can be safely repaired, but it all depends on where the damage is and the condition of the tyre.

As a general guide:

A repair is usually possible if:

The puncture is within the central three-quarters of the tread.
The hole is typically 6mm or less in diameter (depending on tyre type and manufacturer guidance).
The tyre hasn't been driven on while flat.
There is no damage to the sidewall or internal structure.

A replacement is usually needed if:

The puncture is in the shoulder or sidewall of the tyre.
The tyre has suffered internal damage from being driven while underinflated or flat.
The hole is too large or there are multiple repairs close together.
The tyre no longer meets safety standards.

We're hiring: Fast Fit Technician — Scarborough

We're looking for a skilled Fast Fit Technician to join our team at Boro Tyres Autocentres in Scarborough. As an independent, family-run business, we're committed to the highest standards of workmanship and genuinely great customer service.

The role is varied — tyre fitting, wheel alignment, exhausts and batteries. Experience in a similar role at another garage is preferred, but we'll provide training and support as needed for the right candidate.

You'll need to:

Have a genuine interest in vehicle maintenance and repair
Hold a full, valid driving licence (you'll need to drive as part of the role)
Have good attention to detail
Work well as part of a team

This is a full-time role, typically 08:30–17:30 Monday to Friday, plus weekends on a rota basis. We offer a stable career with a competitive salary (dependent on experience), a performance-related bonus scheme, and we recognise hard work, loyalty and achievements. You'll also get discounted MOT and servicing for you and your family, and a colleague introduction reward scheme.
