Not every day in restoration is glorious… 😂
Some days it’s two steps forward and one step back.

Trying to get a hand-built aluminium car from the 1940s perfectly straight can be seriously challenging. The metal has its own character, and what looks perfect from one angle can show you a completely different story from another.
But that’s restoration — finding the problems, solving them properly and refusing to settle for “good enough.”
It might not be the prettiest part of the job, but getting these details right now is what makes the finished car exceptional. 💪

The hard days are part of building something special.

🔥 Another little job that makes a BIG difference! 🔥
This is the sort of work that goes on behind the scenes during a proper restoration.

No shortcuts. No bodging. No “that’ll do”.
We’re getting this panel absolutely right before it moves on to the next stage. Every contour, every edge and every detail needs to be spot on — because once the paint goes on, there’s nowhere to hide! 👌

This is why proper restoration takes time. It’s all about the preparation, the detail and controlling the quality from bare metal right through to the finished car.

🔧 MK2 Golf GTI – You Have To Check The Details!

While restoring this Mk2 Golf GTI, we fitted the aftermarket front wing supplied to us.

The wing itself looked fine when we test-fitted it, but when we came to fit the actual indicator, we found the problem…

The supplier had centred the indicator hole around the wrong pressed ring, meaning once the indicator was fitted, it was pointing upwards towards the front of the car rather than sitting correctly. 🤦‍♂️

Unfortunately, we hadn't actually test-fitted the indicator itself when the wing was first trial fitted, so we didn't catch the issue straight away.

To be fair to the supplier, they were excellent about it and have sent us a brand-new replacement wing completely free of charge. 👍

But this is exactly why, when you're doing a proper restoration, you can't just assume an aftermarket panel is correct because it looks right.

Everything gets checked, test-fitted and checked again.

On a restoration, it's the small details that make the finished car right. 👌

🚨 MARK MY WORDS… 🚨

I genuinely believe we could be looking at a huge shift in the classic car market over the next 12 months.

With governments increasingly looking at pensions, inheritance and how people’s wealth is held, I can see more and more people looking for alternative ways to preserve their money.

And what better place to look than classic cars? 🚗💷

A properly restored, desirable classic isn't just a car — it's a tangible asset. You can see it, drive it, enjoy it and, importantly, there is a finite number of them.

Once the numbers of certain models start disappearing, the values can move very quickly.

I honestly think we could see classic car prices start increasing thick and fast over the next 12 months, especially for the right cars and genuinely high-quality examples.

And remember…

They aren't making any more 1960s, 70s, 80s or 90s classics.

Restoration is where my heart is. It always has been. ❤️🔧

But why?

For me, the biggest reason is control.

When you take a car right back to the bare bones, you get the opportunity to start again properly. No hiding problems, no guessing what’s underneath, no simply making something look good from the outside.

You can see everything.

And more importantly, I can control the quality of the work from the very beginning to the very end.

Every piece of metal, every weld, every repair, every panel and every layer of protection gets the attention it deserves.

That means I can stand behind the work I do and warranty the quality of it.

That’s what restoration means to me.

Not just making an old car look nice.

Making it right. Doing it properly. And knowing exactly what’s underneath it when it leaves the workshop.

That’s why restoration will always be a massive part of what I do. ❤️
