⚠️ Sometimes the smallest defect can cause the biggest failures … L405 4.4 SDV8 was recovered in to us for an investigation into excessive smoke from the exhaust whilst driving. 💨

🔍 An initial inspection was carried out and a staggering 2L of oil was drained from the intercooler, being sucked into the intake of the engine- how this Range Rover didn’t suffer from diesel run on I don’t know.
With the sheer volume of oil passing through the turbo we advised the best cause of action was to remove the engine to fully check the turbos for damage and to investigate the cause of the concern.

⚙️ With the turbos giving the all clear, we traced and identified the fault to a broken pressure relief valve within the oil filter housing. This was jamming the valve from regulating the pressure and causing the turbos to be fed too much oil.
This was caught just in time- it could have easily been an engine killer!

We’ve been so busy through the summer, a big thanks to all our customers for their patience with bookings and repairs. I’ll also try to keep up regular social updates from now on! 😀

Josh our Apprentice Technician conducting his first cylinder head gasket replacement with us today on a 200tdi Defender-supervised of course! Josh is learning the importance of attention to detail during the torquing down stage.

Tomorrow’s lesson - adjusting valve clearances correctly… we’ll teach him the ‘Rule of nine’ on this 8 valve engine. Who’s old enough to know what we’re talking about?? 🤓

What’s preferred?

- Extensive experience working on a wide range of vehicles in a commercial setting would be desirable.

- The Candidate is a competent MOT tester in class 4 and 7 would be an advantage.
