Rewind to the 1960s, and the seed was sown for Neil Truran to begin his love affair with Stock Car racing, for as a young lad, he enjoyed weekly trips to his local circuit, the Cornish Stadium, St Austell. Neil’s parents ran the catering outlets and were therefore significantly involved. From as young as just three years of age, Neil would clamber from his pushchair, and his early recollections in
cluded the sights, sounds and smells of the race meetings – such as cars splattered with shale, the noise of the cars, and the unmistakable aroma of Castrol R oil. Roll forward to the 1970s, and with the BriSCA F2 Stock Car World Championship twice being staged at St Austell (1972 and 1976), Neil was further influenced and further caught the racing bug. Indeed, Neil’s late father Gerry captured some cine camera footage of that memorable first World Final in 1972, when Northern Ireland racer Jimmy Murray struck gold, and was carried shoulder high by his countrymen for a lap of honour at the end of the race. After cutting his racing teeth at a young age, he acquired his own BriSCA F2 at the age of 16 – racing a succession of low budget F2s. At the end of this first season, Neil rolled over at the Cornish Stadium, inflicting heavy damage to the roll cage of his car. In those teenage years, finances were always a restricting factor, which denied him the chance to race as regularly as he would have liked. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Neil raced in assorted classes, from Auto Rods/Saloon Stox, to National Super Rods, Lightning Rods, National Hot Rods and then Stock Rods. Indeed, the introduction of regular racing for Stock Rods at the Cornish venues of St Day and St Columb from 2000 onwards coincided with the emergence of Neil Truran Motorsport. For 24 years, Neil Truran Motorsport have been the recognised westcountry agent for Yokohama Tyres. For 20 years, Neil Truran Motorsport have sponsored the World Championship qualifying round for BriSCA F2 Stock Cars at St Day. In 2013, Neil realised a childhood ambition when he was instrumental in Neil Truran Motorsport being a joint sponsor of the BriSCA F2 World Championship at Smeatharpe – a race considered by many to be one of the most outstanding, dramatic and memorable in over 50 years of history of the sport. Neil Truran Motorsport have been long time supporters of low graders in BriSCA F2 Stock Cars. Already in 2022, they have backed a White Top race at Smeatharpe and a White Top race at St Day.
