Motorcyclists are far more exposed than car drivers. In a collision, thereโs no vehicle body, airbags, or seatbelt to absorb impactโyour body takes the force directly.
Proper gear (helmet, jacket, gloves, trousers, boots) protects against:
Head injuries (the most common cause of motorcycle fatalities)
Road rash (skin abrasions from sliding on tarmac)
Broken bones and joint injuries
A helmet alone is estimated to reduce the risk of death by around 40% and serious head injury by even more.
At biker meets we attend The Piston Club we are pleased to see the majority of bikers wearing full protective gear. However, we have been disappointed to see some in shorts, t shirts and vests in the recent hot weather. These would offer no protection, even at low speeds.
Smart bikers gear up on every trip.
