More Than Just a Bike Show: Over 40 Years of Royston & District Motorcycle Club

We are based in Royston Hertfordshire so this is our home town, most our crew live within a few miles so we always go along to support.

Yesterday, June 17th thousands of motorcyclists descended on Meldreth for the annual Royston & District Motorcycle Club (RDMCC) Bike Show, continuing a tradition that has become one of the region's most anticipated motorcycling events.

What many visitors may not realise is that the show's roots stretch back more than four decades. Over the years, it has grown from a local gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts into a major community event attracting riders and visitors from across the country.

This newspaper cutting from 1999 takes us back to a time when the show was held at Meldreth Manor School. The club eventually outgrew the venue and, around 10 years ago, relocated the show to the Eternit Sports & Social Club in Meldreth, where it continues to thrive today.

While the motorcycles are undoubtedly the star attraction, the event's success story extends far beyond the bikes on display. Thanks to the dedication of club members, volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors and visitors, the Royston & District Motorcycle Club has raised more than £250,000 for charity over the past 15 years alone.

That remarkable achievement reflects the spirit of the motorcycling community – bringing people together, supporting worthy causes, and creating an event that benefits both riders and the wider community.

As another successful show comes to a close, it's worth reflecting on how far the event has come since those early days. From a local bike gathering to a charity fundraising powerhouse attracting thousands of visitors each year, the Royston & District Motorcycle Club Bike Show remains a testament to what can be achieved through passion, commitment and community spirit.
