VEHICLE TECHNICIAN / MECHANIC NEEDED
Experienced Vehicle Technician / Mechanic
Jones Auto Services Ltd – Strood, Medway
£40,000–£45,000 per year, depending on experience and ability
Full-time, permanent
Monday–Friday: 8:00am–5:30pm
Every other Saturday: 8:00am–1:00pm
Paid lunch break
280 hours' paid annual leave per year, including bank holidays
Jones Auto Services Ltd is looking for an experienced, skilled and dependable Vehicle Technician / Mechanic to join our growing independent garage in Strood, Medway.
We're looking for someone who genuinely knows their way around a vehicle. For us, practical experience, ability and quality of workmanship are more important than qualifications on paper.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technician who is confident working independently, takes pride in doing a job properly and wants to become a valued member of a friendly, established and growing business.
You'll work on a wide variety of cars and light commercial vehicles, covering everything from routine servicing and diagnostics through to major engine and gearbox repairs.
The Role
No two days are exactly the same. Your work will include:
- Vehicle servicing and routine maintenance
- Mechanical fault finding, diagnosis and repair
- Brakes, suspension, steering and general mechanical repairs
- Timing belt replacements
- Timing chain replacements
- Diagnosing and repairing engine damage following timing belt or timing chain failure
- Cylinder head and head gasket repairs
- Clutch replacements
- Gearbox removal and replacement
- Engine diagnosis and repairs
- Complete engine removal and replacement when required
- Vehicle inspections and identifying additional work required
- Accurately assessing faults and the repairs needed
- Ensuring all work is completed safely, correctly and to a high standard
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment
We're looking for someone who is genuinely confident carrying out major mechanical repairs without constant supervision and can use their own experience and initiative to diagnose problems and get the job done properly.
More Than Just Working on Cars
As an independent garage, we work as a team and everyone helps where needed.
From time to time, particularly when our receptionist is busy, you may be asked to answer the telephone, speak directly with customers, take bookings, discuss vehicle faults and repairs, or help with general customer enquiries.
We're therefore looking for someone who is not only technically capable, but also friendly, approachable and comfortable communicating professionally with customers.
MOT Testing
We are working towards becoming an MOT testing station, which will create further opportunities within the business.
Previous MOT testing experience or an MOT Tester qualification would therefore be a real advantage, but it is not essential for the position.
What We're Looking For
You'll ideally be someone who:
- Has strong, proven experience as a Vehicle Technician / Mechanic
- Is confident carrying out major mechanical repairs independently
- Has good mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Can work efficiently without constant supervision
- Uses their own initiative and can manage their workload
- Takes genuine pride in the quality of their work
- Has a high standard of workmanship and attention to detail
- Is reliable, punctual and organised
- Has a positive attitude towards work
- Is comfortable working on both cars and light commercial vehicles
- Can communicate confidently and professionally with customers
- Works well as part of a small, friendly team
- Holds a full UK driving licence
- Has MOT testing experience or an MOT Tester qualification – advantageous, but not essential
Formal motor vehicle qualifications are welcome, but we're far more interested in your experience, ability and the standard of your work.
