Before you book an expensive windscreen replacement, read this. 🛑

One of our car rental clients was ready to replace a damaged windscreen, but faced an extended delay waiting for the new glass to arrive.

Because the combination damage was fresh and free from dirt contamination, we advised them that a high-quality repair was completely possible.

Our technician, Mark of Glasweld Nottingham, stepped in and delivered a flawless repair. The results?
💰 Saved the client hundreds of pounds on a replacement.
🚗 Got the vehicle back on hire immediately—turning lost time back into revenue.

Meet the Technician: Bill Heggs

For Bill, one of the best things about being a GlasWeld technician is that every day is different but worthwhile.

What do you enjoy most about your job? I enjoy the variety of the role, the logistics of planning and replanning, and the satisfaction of finding the best way to get around my area and provide a brilliant service to customers. There is real pride in producing a great result, especially when the damage looks bad.
What’s one skill that really helps you succeed in your role? Most glass damage issues can be solved with the right approach, confidence and a fair bit of tenacity.
What’s the biggest challenge in your job? Bad weather can make the job challenging, but I will always try to find a way, whether that means working under cover, positioning the vehicle away from the rain, or adapting the day to make repairs possible.
What’s one thing customers might not realise about your job? Technicians only earn when jobs go ahead. If a vehicle is not back on site or a booking is cancelled, a technician must think quickly, find another opportunity nearby, and keep the day productive.

Quick fire with Bill

Tea or coffee? Tea
Early bird or night owl? Night Owl
Favourite holiday destination? Ionian Islands - lush green places with friendly people.
Favourite food? Chicken Shish kebab in a thin pitta wrap with peppers, onions and salad.
If you weren’t doing this job, what would you be doing? I’d probably be working overseas in tourism, which I did for many years. I met my wife on the Greek island of Rhodes when we worked as holiday tour reps
Advice to someone starting in your role? Stick with the job, make it work for you, be determined and be disciplined to succeed. Set targets to achieve, such as revenue per day or number of screen repairs per day.

Meet the Technician: Ashley Ross

For Ashley, no two days are the same, and that is exactly what he enjoys most about the job. He loves the freedom of managing his own business, working outdoors, and building something for himself.

What do you enjoy most about your job? It’s different every day, I have the freedom to manage my own business, and I love to be working outside.
What’s one skill that really helps you succeed in your role? Having perseverance.
What’s the biggest challenge in your job? The weather, especially the rain, it makes repairing the glass much more difficult. I don’t mind the cold so much and heated gloves are a lifesaver.
What’s one thing customers might not realise about your job? How much actually goes into the job, like all the tools and the preparation.

Quick fire with Ashley
Tea or coffee? Coffee
Early bird or night owl? If I had to pick one, then night owl.
Favourite holiday destination? The Maldives are amazing, but anywhere on the Southeast coast of Spain is beautiful.
Favourite food? Pizza
If you weren’t doing this job, what would you be doing? Probably what I was doing before, so an apprentice mechanic mainly because I love cars so much.
What advice would you give to someone starting in your role? Put the legwork in early and get out there, set yourself up online to get yourself known. But also, make sure not to overstretch yourself by trying to deal with everyone at one because it’s not possible and you’ll be too tired from driving, say 200 miles a day.
