I had a call from a guy with a 2016 Peugeot 2008 with a warning on the dashboard for an electrical fault, I collected the car and once back at the workshop plugged in the diagnostic scan tool and had faults for body control module no communication with battery maintaining control module and engine ECU no communication with battery maintaining control module.
On lifting the bonnet I knew straight away what the problem would be. There were large amounts of chewed up foam and rodent poo, which i identified as rats (but i am no expert in rodent poo), looking at the battery maintaining control module which is located on top of the battery cover I found two wires chewed away.
So I soldered in two new lengths of wire and repaired the loom and cleaned of the foam and poo (not the best part of being a vehicle tech!), reset the control module and deleted the fault codes and the car was back to normal with no warning on the dashboard and the start/stop working again.
The customer did say to me that they had had a rat in the garden but never thought it would get or eat bits of the car.
