New Vehicle Excise Duty for April 2017 Explained
Effective 1 April 2017, vehicle tax rates or Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) are set to change. The first 12 months will be based on CO2 emissions irrespective of fuel type, the bands span from 0 to over 255 carbon emissions with costs ranging from £0 to £2,000 (see the table below). The change in VED rates only apply to brand new vehicles registered from the 1st of April 2017, meaning that any car you bought/buy before then is unaffected.
In addition to the new Co2 banding structure explained above, you could occur some other costs.
Firstly, good news for those fuel efficient drivers out there, if your vehicle is zero-emission you'll pay nothing (£0) rather than the £140 standard rate charge.
All new vehicles that are priced £40,000+ are subject to an additional £310 tax from year 2 to 6. If your vehicle is of zero-emissions and priced over £40,000, you will only be charged the additional rate of £310.
Vehicles priced over £40,000 and 1+ Co2 emissions will be charged the standard rate of £140 plus the additional rate of £310 with a total of £450.
For example
If on the 2nd of April 2017 you decided to purchase a brand new petrol car at the price of £27,995 with 144/km, your vehicle will fit in the 131-150/km tax bracket. You will pay £200 in your first year then £140 in the years succeeding. Having owned your car for 6 years, you'll pay a total of £900.
In contrast
If you purchase a vehicle on the 2nd of April at the price of £45,000 and its carbon emission figure is 226g/km. The First Year Rate is, therefore, £1,700, the Standard Rate is £140 and – from year 2 to 6 inclusive – it is subject to the £310 Additional Rate too. Total cost is £3,950 assuming there is no change to the rates.

SKODA Motorsport will run it this retro livery at this week's Monte Carlo Rally. This is to celebrate SKODA’s legendary triumph at the same rally 40 years ago.

The works team’s ŠKODA FABIA R5 will feature the same blue and red stripes as sported by the winning car from 1977. Four decades ago, Václav Blahna and his co-driver Lubislav Hlávka won the class for cars with up to 1,300 cc with their ŠKODA 130 RS.

It's official....

Sir Bradley Wiggins to partner with SKODA UK.

The three-year deal will see the former Tour de France winner and Britain’s most decorated Olympian appear in ŠKODA‘s new UK brand campaign which will be launched across TV, online, print and cinema in February.

As part of the deal, ŠKODA UK will supply Wiggins with a Superb Estate SportLine 2.0 TSI 280PS DSG.

ŠKODA started life as a bicycle company in 1895. Since then the brand‘s passion for two wheels has never wavered. Cycling has remained important to ŠKODA since that day and the brand has honoured that heritage ever since. Today, ŠKODA supports the sport through multiple event sponsorships including the Tour de France, Tour of Britain, The Women's Tour, and as vehicle partner to RideLondon.

Do you know about the upcoming changes to Road Tax from 1st April?

Many models that are currently exempt will start to attract £400 in tax charges over three years, when a new Treasury scheme comes into place on April 1, affecting any new car registered after that date.

The current tax scheme is based on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Any car emitting an average of less than 99g of CO2 for every kilometre that it drives is currently exempt from car tax.
However, the new rules slash that exemption which, after April 1, will only apply to vehicles with no CO2 emissions at all. Drivers of any other car will pay £140 in tax each year, apart from the first year that it’s on the road, when tax will still be calculated on CO2 emissions.

It gets worse for anyone buying a car with an official price of more than £40,000. They will face an annual ‘wealth tax’ for cars between the ages of one and six years, taking their bill to £450 a year.
