Let’s Talk Datalogging | Mini JCW Stage 1 ECU & TCU Tuning

A classic example of why datalogging is so important during a tuning session.

This Mini JCW was showing ignition timing being pulled during our initial testing. Something that could easily be missed without correctly analysing the data.

Further investigation identified poorly performing spark plugs, so we supplied and fitted a fresh set of NGK plugs, correctly gapped for the application.

With the ignition issue addressed, we continued with our custom Dervtech ECU and TCU calibration.

📉 Factory Output: 231bhp / 310Nm
📊 Measured Stock: 218bhp / 333Nm
🚀 Dervtech Stage 1 ECU & TCU: 296bhp / 410Nm

That’s a gain of +78bhp and +77Nm over the measured baseline.

A strong result, but more importantly, a great demonstration of why understanding the datalogs matters.

It’s not just about making power. It’s about identifying problems, correcting them and developing the calibration properly.

Let’s talk repairs !

2019 BMW 320i B48 | VANOS Repairs & Timing System

This BMW 320i came into the workshop suffering from hesitation and poor engine performance, requiring further investigation into the VANOS and timing system.

Following diagnosis, we carried out the necessary repairs using genuine BMW timing tools to ensure everything was correctly aligned and timed.

🔧 Work Carried Out:

* Both VANOS oil control solenoids replaced
* VANOS sprockets replaced
* Timing set using genuine BMW timing tools
* Timing system reassembled and checked

Correct timing and VANOS operation are essential for these B48 engines, particularly when dealing with hesitation and inconsistent performance.

A good example of the mechanical repair work we carry out alongside our ECU and TCU tuning services.

2017 Audi A7 3.0 TDI | Stage 1 ECU & TCU Tuning

A good example of why correct diagnostics are just as important as the tuning itself.

This A7 arrived with a rough idle, having previously been diagnosed elsewhere as faulty injectors.

The owner had the injectors replaced, but unfortunately the problem remained.

10 minutes with Craig and the actual issue was identified — an EGR fault.

With the fault correctly diagnosed and resolved, we could move on to the original reason for the visit Stage 1 engine and gearbox tuning.

✅ EGR fault diagnosed and resolved
✅ Rough idle corrected
✅ Stage 1 ECU calibration
✅ Stage 1 TCU gearbox software

A great result, and a reminder that replacing parts based on guesswork can become an expensive exercise.

Diagnosed correctly. Repaired properly. Custom tuned.

2016 Toyota Hilux Invincible 3.0 D-4D | Custom ECU Retune

Another example of why correct ECU calibration matters.

This Hilux arrived already tuned, but suffering from constant engine management and traction control warning lights caused by a poorly implemented EGR software solution.

We removed the existing calibration and carried out a full custom retune, addressing the software issues and checking the results through datalogging.

✅ Previous calibration corrected
✅ Excellent datalogs
✅ No excessive smoke
✅ Smooth, controlled power delivery

The result is a much better behaved Hilux, without the issues caused by the previous software.

This C43 AMG received our Stage 2 performance package, combining custom ECU and TCU calibration with the required supporting hardware.

With the hardware in place, we developed the calibration to deliver stronger performance, improved gearbox response and smooth, progressive power delivery.

The result is a C43 that sounds as good as it performs, with the engine and gearbox working together exactly as intended.
