We're still here, slogging away in the cold & damp 🐧🐧

Make a call if you need tyres, MOT, service; or have any other motorcycle/scooter problem.

Until it warms up again - we may often be tucked away with the gate & door closed, to keep any heat in 🥶 - so if you drop by & see no sign of life… get on the 'phone & see if we're there.

Long post warning !

TL/DR : the fuel pump hose was off inside the tank... it's fixed now.

A 1200 twin, fuel-injected : not starting after (probably) sitting a while.

Spark plugs very sooty, & were those 'cheap but fancy' all-round ground electrode type, which have a much larger gap than recommended.

Connecting a good clean plug to one side (not even in the head) let it fire up on the other cylinder (double ended coil, so a better spark that way) … which seemed to lend weight to a 'bad plugs' diagnosis.

New ones fitted today : it was exactly the same afterwards 😞

We confirmed good compression ( a 2 minute job, so why not ? : 250+ psi ) then looked at the fuel spray from both injectors - it was a sq**rt & splash rather than atomised.

Dismantling the lines revealed pitiful fuel pressure, despite the pump shutting off as if it were primed, with no warning lamps.

Off with the tank & out with the pump & filter.

This particular setup has a long metal outlet pipe sticking up into the tank, alongside a 'stack' of fuel pump & filter : the two connected with a short u-bend of flexible hose (10 in the 1st image - connects where the red circle is in the 2nd )… but the hose was barely connected to the outlet pipe 😁

We can't know if it had been like that from the factory in 2001, or was the result of a bungled filter change, rather later. The one-time-use clip wasn't over the pipe barb at all.

All back together, & it started first time : a road test tomorrow will hopefully confirm that there are no other problems.🤞

A (first world) nightmare recently, trying to get the right parts for a Chinese scooter where the importer didn't care to help.

You might think 'GY6' = GY6 & QM152 etc, but there are different cylinder stud spacings ( QM152-A ? & so gaskets too ) that even the more reputable importers don't seem to know about...

After too long a delay (sorry 😞) - in finding the right parts : we did... & a shocking oil leak was fixed.

There's only one way to do it 👍

There's getting your money's worth, and there's just being silly...

This front brake disc on a customer's 125 measured 0.5mm thick (minimum safe is 3mm)

Two bikes with 'points' ignition problems, within a month...

We might get a reputation for fixing old bangers. 🥶

We're still here, (no stopping us) 😎; although there have been some very quiet days lately.

Recently : a fuel injected Italian scooter, ran up to 20-odd no problem, then shut off & insisted on restarting in 'limp' mode - meaning a slow ride back 😴

Fortunately, we have diagnostic tools to suit - & found / fixed a loose primary connector on the HT coil.

All good & fine : without the onboard computer it might have been a slog checking every last thing… but I wonder if an older model would have even misfired ?, since it started & ran ok otherwise.

Although… sometimes : vibration at a certain speed can make loose spade connections 'float' & lose contact altogether.

Anyway - all done 👍
