Another Prius battery pack saved. Module 20 faulty and pulling the whole battery down. New module balanced and fitted,substantially cheaper than a replacement battery.

Customer presented his Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV with a service Ev system message, strange that he phoned the dealer and was told has no service items so must be mistaken, crazy as we checked the vehicle and faults within the system pointed towards a welded contactor.
This means the switching of the high voltage can stay on and keep the car in a live state after switch off. Not dangerous to the user but can be to a technician without the correct training to shut these systems down and check they are safe to work on,
Fortunately this was a comms fault from the fast charge dc port and was easily rectified. I used to call it dealer level service from MVT but it seems we are leaving them behind, thanks to HEVRA for technical assistance.

Successful repair to this Toyota Prius today. Battery management picked up a fault within the battery and was telling us to replace it. Quite common
We safely removed the battery pack and identified the culprit module. Replaced as a pair to make up the block the vehicle is now charging the pack as it should.

This is a battery pack from a 2012 Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle. It looks very complicated and it is high voltage, about 300v but with the knowledge, tooling and most importantly the correct protection we can safely work on these vehicles. Batteries are made up of multiple modules and can be changed and set up within the battery to substantially reduce costs.
