One radar. Four screens. One output.

If you’ve ever wondered how to get radar targets onto your plotter, alarm system and VDR without overloading anything, this one’s for you.

We’ve put together a practical guide on sharing radar data safely with an NMEA 0183 buffer, including wiring steps and fixes for the most common problems.

Read the guide:

Learn what radar sends over NMEA 0183, why one output can’t serve every device, and how a buffer shares target data safely to plotters, VDRs and alarms.

We've done it again! For the fifth year running, Actisense has been named NMEA Manufacturer of the Year.

The award was presented at the 2026 National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) Conference and Expo in Dallas, Texas, and it means the world to us because it's voted for by NMEA members, the people who fit and use marine electronics every day.

"Five years in a row. That still takes some getting used to!" said our CEO, Phil Whitehurst. "We don't take it for granted. We'll keep earning it!"

Thank you to our brilliant team, our partners around the world, and to all of you who choose Actisense for your boat. 🧡

NMEA 0183 has been running marine electronics for over 20 years, but mixing old and new gear on the same network isn't always a simple plug-and-play job.

Get it wrong, and you can end up damaging equipment (yes, really).

We've put together a quick, back-to-basics breakdown covering:
- Talkers vs. Listeners
- Why voltage levels matter more than you'd think
- What opto-isolation actually protects against
- How our ISO-Drive™ tech solves the wiring problem for good

Whether you're installing, troubleshooting, or just brushing up, this one's worth a read ->

The NMEA 0183 standard specifies both the electrical connections that make up an NMEA system, the communications method

Ever plugged your NMEA devices straight into your laptop? You might be creating a problem you can't see.

Ground loops don't come with a warning light; they just quietly corrupt your data or damage your equipment over time. And the worst time to find out is when your GPS fails, miles offshore.

The good news: it's an easy fix. Our latest article explains how ground loops happen, and how to safely connect your NMEA devices to a PC. 👇

NMEA isolation is critical to maintaining a safe and reliable network. Without some form of isolation, this opens up the risk of ground loops.
