Meet Steve 👋

Owner of Drive Autoworks. Been running the business for over 5 years now, since March 2021.

Favourite job? Taking a car that needs absolutely everything, brakes, tyres, suspension, cam belt, major service, the works. And by the time it leaves, it’s transformed. When the customer notices the difference and is genuinely appreciative? That’s what it’s all about. 🙌

Worst job? Working on his own van. (See previous reel. 😂)

Tea in the morning, couple of coffees after. Sensible.

First car was a Nova saloon. Dream cars? 205 GTI, Nova GSI, and he’s had a Fiesta RS Turbo for 24 years that needs to get back on the road. One day, Steve. One day. 🤞

Worst thing seen on a car? Metal to metal brakes. More common than you’d think. Please get your brakes checked. 🙏

Meet James 👋

Service tech here at Drive Autoworks for about a year and a half.

Favourite job? A nice 2 litre TDI cam belt. Satisfying every time. ✅

Worst job? Longitudinal automatic Audi gearboxes. Heavy, awkward, not one he’s rushing back to.

Dream car? Mk4 Astra GSI in Arden blue.

Worst car? Anything Renault or Peugeot.

First car was an Astra too. Not the GSI though. 😂

Coffee. No milk.

And the worst thing he’s ever found on a car? A steering wheel covered in bogies. Found that one out the hard way. 😭

Service adviser. Parts orderer. Keeper of order. (Steve’s words, not ours 😂)

14 years in the motor trade, main dealers, non franchise, seen it all.

Including the state of some of your vehicles. 👀 You know who you are.

Dream car? Audi RS6. Power, practicality, perfection. ✅

Worst car? Anything French. Or a Jag. Or a Land Rover. (She’s not sorry.)

First car was a Mk1 Fiesta. Bucket seats, sound system, electrical issues they never got to the bottom of.

The irony of working in a garage is not lost on us. 😂

Coffee during the day. Tea in the evening. Priorities sorted.

We’re glad she’s here, keeping us all in check.

Part 2 of Steve’s Van, quick fix with 5 mins to spare

The wiring’s gone black.
Moisture got in.
The proper fix? Cut it all back, trace it through, run new wire.

BUT this is Steve’s van. And he was leaving in it that day.

So… quick and dirty fix it is. 😅

Crimp it.
Heat shrink it.
Tape it.
Hope for the best.

This is literally the mechanic’s version of a busman’s holiday - fixing your own van the morning before you go away in it. 😂

Battery reconnected…
No flashing coil light.
👀 Sporadic fault.
Then… Gone.
✅ Problem fixed.

With about 5 minutes to spare.

Don’t try this at home. (But also… sometimes you’ve just got to get away.) 🚐

Airbag fault on this Skoda… time to dig deeper.

Checked wiring, tested the circuit, ruled out the sensor.

All pointing towards the ECU.

We’ll get one ordered and get it sorted.
