The word sustainability in the diesel engine world is a hard one to define. So instead, we have been looking into the environmental benefits of decarbonisation.
In a recently released case study by the University of Bayreuth, Germany, and validated by an independent expert on behalf of DEKRA Assurance Services GmbH, MAN explores the environmental impacts of newly manufactured engines compared with a remanufactured version. Specifically, the MAN D2842 LE622 rail engine.
Through this study, real numbers and quantifiable results were gathered, showing just how important it is to look at further alternatives to purchasing new.
Although the industry cannot completely remove the diesel engine, there are ways to better utilise the products we already have out there. Reducing the number of new engines produced in favour of remanufacturing is MAN's way of supporting decarbonisation.
