JLR has outlined a £1.7 billion cost reduction programme and confirmed changes to its future powertrain plans.

The update follows a difficult FY26, with revenue falling 20.9% to £22.9bn and profit before tax and exceptional items dropping from £2.5bn to £14 million.

JLR says future Range Rover, Defender and Discovery models will offer greater propulsion flexibility, while Jaguar will remain an electric-only brand.

The company is also adding full hybrid capability to its Electrified Modular Architecture, which will underpin future products built at Halewood.

Renault Group has completed its full acquisition of electric van manufacturer Flexis.

Flexis has previously shown three electric vans using Renault’s EV architecture, closely related to the manufacturer’s upcoming electric van range, including the new Trafic E-Tech Electric.

Renault says the ownership change will not affect the product plans, industrial strategy or planned start of sales.

UK availability has not yet been confirmed, but Renault has indicated the vehicles could be offered in key markets where this type of electric van is relevant.

MINI has been ranked as the car brand leasing companies would be most likely to recommend as a supplier to the fleet market.

BMW and Volkswagen also scored highly in the latest British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association - BVRLA OEM Relationship Survey, which asked leasing providers to rate 26 manufacturers across areas including purchasing, in-life support, EVs, financial support and products and services.

While overall satisfaction was broadly unchanged, the average Net Promoter Score fell from 3.7 to 2.4, suggesting there are still clear differences between the strongest and weakest-performing manufacturers.

The survey also identified EV technical support, residual value support and connected vehicle services as areas needing more attention.

💵 Hillingdon Council has spent almost £500,000 on ULEZ charges since the London zone expanded in 2023.

The fees relate to 26 non-compliant vehicles within its 295-strong fleet and are still costing the authority between £6,500 and £8,000 each month.

The council plans to replace them with newer diesel vehicles, saying electric models remain too costly or unsuitable for parts of its specialist fleet because of infrastructure and operational limitations.

The case shows the cost of delaying vehicle replacement, while also highlighting the challenges some operators face when moving heavier and specialist vehicles to electric power.

Audi is launching a plug-in hybrid version of the A6 Allroad for the first time.

The new model combines 367PS with an electric-only range of up to 59 miles from its 26kWh battery. It also comes with quattro all-wheel drive, adaptive air suspension and increased ground clearance.

All-wheel steering is standard on the PHEV, helping to improve manoeuvrability and reduce the turning circle by up to one metre.

For fleets, the new A6 Allroad offers a mix of estate practicality, electric driving and added capability for more demanding journeys.

Full pricing and specifications will be announced later this year.

Renault has launched a new factory-built conversion programme for its commercial vehicles.

Converted by Renault allows customers to order a ready-to-use vehicle through a single contact in the dealer network, with one invoice and delivery times claimed to be 30% shorter on average.

The converted element is covered by Renault warranty support and can be repaired through the manufacturer’s network. Renault also says it will be included within the vehicle’s residual value.

The programme covers selected Kangoo, Trafic and Master conversions, with the future Trafic E-Tech electric also set to join the range.

The Government is expected to consult on reducing its electric vehicle sales targets following growing pressure from manufacturers and unions.

Reports suggest the proportion of new cars required to be fully electric by 2030 could be cut from 80% to 50%.

Supporters believe a lower target would better reflect current consumer demand and ease pressure on manufacturers. Critics warn that changing the policy again could weaken confidence in the EV transition and reduce investment in charging infrastructure.

For fleets planning vehicles and charging over several years, the debate raises an important question: would lower targets create a more realistic transition, or simply bring more uncertainty?
